What's Your Mileage Update?

yeah, I was saying my 35's tranny was fine and it turns out it needed fluid changed BADLY at 80k and all the seals were gone

2005 FX45 @ 68xxx. Other than the annoying sounds of things getting loose in the cabin, shes running strong!

Taking pride in NOT maintaining your vehicle? I don't get it...

My FX is wonderfully maintained actually. I just don't believe in changing parts out for no reason. If and when my tranny shows any sign of a problem, it will get a flush. As it is, it is showing no signs of noise, slippage, or failing.

Do you flush out your brake fluid needlessly?

In fact, my FX is driving better than it did when I bought it 2.5 years ago at 47,XXX miles. I'm averaging at least 25k miles a year, so I notice any small change in the ride, power, or performance. Parts get replaced at the first sign of something wrong. At the moment, I'm waiting for a new front driver wheel bearing hub to arrive since it just started making noise. It will be replaced by me within a week.

That's just classic.
& there is a good reason for changing fluids. That my friend would be one maintenance that isnt exactly optional.
Or . . look at it this way. Some cars have a timing belt. You would be the one that would wait till you thought you felt a problem before changing it?
The idea is to get the belt out while it's still good & has some life left on it before it breaks. But you go ahead . . go risk your 5K++ tranny rebuild, when all you had to do was change a fluid. Not telling you that you are, but I think that's just stupidity

The glaring fault in your logic is that, with MANY parts and assemblies in your FX, by the time you feel a problem the damage has already been done. This absolutely includes the brakes, transmission, and engine. You're also assuming that any problems will manifest suddenly and in a way that you will feel, when in fact many problems develop over long periods of time. Those of us who maintain their cars according to the manufacturer's recommendations never experience what you can "signs that something's wrong". That is mostly due to the fact the normal maintenence is what prevents systems from catastrophically failing.

100k miles without a problem is some huge luck. But don't skip on regular maintenance anymore. I mean you have crossed 100k mark. You shouldn't take anymore chances.

Right now is 30,000 I did not do the 30k service just an oil change you guys think that might be an issue?

Just hit 92K. Still strong as ever:). But the idea of 100K makes me wonder what then.

I'm at the same mileage. just did a 90K maintenance. Still very strong. I love my FX so much, i hope i can keep it up as long as possible. I'll most likely get another FX if this one poops out on me.
