Specifically Which tool is needed to remove the four bolts holding the TB to the plenum? I see its a hex star but what size? I have T-25 T-27 and T-30

ALso do I need the ones with a circle in the middle

I cant post links but in the "TB cleaning" thread in the how to, it shows the bolt heads

In the 4th pic you can see the bolt head. Its star shaped but with a dot in the middle. What exactly Is the size and name of those??

Im talking about the actual butterfly. The actual TB. To remove it I need to remove 4 bolts holding the TB to the plenum, whats the part name for the bit??? T-25???

its not a hex, its allen wrench, i believe is 5mm or 6mm. the hex tamper proof you're talking about is the screw that holds the throttle sensor to the TB(black plastic), what ever you do, DO NOT SEPARATE THEM

Which thread shows it as a hex?

I cant post links but its in the how to, titled "TB cleaning"

fourth pic shows hex and its listed as parts needed

In that thread you post a pic of yours but yours are allen, in th OPs pics it clearly shows a different bolt head

His pic looks like the oem fasteners to me...

I think the confusion is the OP's use of the (odd) term "hex bit" in the description, then later he says "hex bolt", which is something different altogether. Add to that the use of standard sizes rather than the correct metric tools and the result is clearly confusing.

In any event, glad you got it sorted. How did your TB look?

Not too bad for 130k miles. Next i wanna do the plenum, any advice how to tackle that?any write ups? Thanks

It's pretty self-explanatory. Just be careful when reinstalling the upper planum bolts as their torque spec is listed in IN/LBS, not ft/lbs. There are pics of mine in the thread you linked above.

Ok so no special tools or nifty tricks? staright up just unbolt all bolts and clean? any gaskets, sensors or hoses I have to worry about? do i need new gaskets for anything?

There are gaskets between the plenum and TB, between the two halves of the plenum, and between the plenum and the intake manifold. All are reusable if you're careful.

The only sensor is the MAF sensor, which you could leave in place to do the job if you wanted to...

There are a few hoses connecting to the TB and plenum. Just pay attention to where they go and you'll be fine.

Thanks I will be tackling this over the weekend. I cleaned the TB and MAF already so I will be leaving those alone. I can see the gasket between the two plenum halves, and it looks ok so i will be reusing that one. But the one between the plenum and intake, does that move at all??? I wasnt planning on removing the bottom half of the plenum, just clean it where it sits. On my cobra on the top half is removed, is it different for the fx? do both halves get removed???

I guess it depends on your cleaning method. I remove both halves so the three gallons of carb cleaner I use to clean it can go into my bucket instead of the motor.
