What should my next mod be? performance

I am waiting on a LMS CAI and a MD 5/16 copper iso thermal spacer. I also installed HID 6000k fog lights and have Morimoto 6000k headlights. So, i will also be buying a gt spec stb shortly if i can still get one. I am more interested in performance mods right now. So since i hear our stock exhaust is pretty good with the weakest link being the cats. Would i notice an improvement if i got HFC's? Will they make my exhaust sound raspy? Just trying to get the least expensive mods out of the way. Any help is appreciated

i wouldnt get HFCs unless you were getting a full system that was from headers back. Go with test pipes. Rasp there might be some. I would also look into a nice y pipe.

Don't get HFC's w/ stock exhaust. The larger outlet of the HFC vs. smaller inlet on stock Y-pipe causes rasp. Get a tune, even on stock cars, it makes a difference. HFC is maybe 5 hp on it's own.

I got a headache when I installed the High Flow cats on my ride. Too loud(rasp) for my taste. I removed them the next day.

Interestng. From what i've read a CAI and a plenum spacer and a tune could get around 20hp. I emailed the only place i know that does tunes in my city and they said i wont' get 20hp from CAi and plenum spacer. they also said a full tune is $800.00. I was leaning towards gettng a tune until he told me that

Since you're looking for least expensive mods for performance:
Get rid of the spare tire.
Disconnect AWD.
Get iridium spark plugs.

Don't even touch tuning if you are not done with your bolt ons. Your best bet is to search. Tons of information has already been posted on these forums to answer your questions. Do you have a link to where it says a tune with spacers and CAI will get you 20 hp?? Short Ram Intake CAI, whatever you like or want, none of them really help with power. But watch out, this isn't a honda. There is probably not a single bolt on under $2000 that shows 20+ HP gains!

i would personally wait for the tune and get at least a cat back system. maybe hfc before a tune cause after your gonna have to retune it anyways. btw was wondering if aph had a awd dyno the tune?

Not sure if they have a awd tune. They never asked me if my vehicle was awd. Sorry Exotich, don't have time to search were a read about 20hp. If it's not true just say so. Not sure why you feel the need to ask for a llink. Well how much hp does a spacer give you? According to Motordyne between 12-14 hp and they have graphs. Never really thought 20 hp was that much to begin with. I know bolt ons don't do much but if you add a tune? I read that a tune on a stock car can get 10 hp. Am i missing something here

Not really, its pretty widely regarded that full breather mods and a tune will add upwards of 30hp...

So what you're saying meme is that it's not totally crazy to expect 20 hp with the mods i will have and a tune. Or when you say breather mods do you mean, headers. intake, spacer, exhaust?

Seriously you recommend disconnecting AWD for performance? Ok...

And the tune can yield 10+ hp on otherwise stock car and more with bolt ons. Not going to be mind blowing but if you stay N/A, nothing is going to generate huge power.

Realistically in terms of numbers, its really dyno dependant.

In terms of performance difference, yes you will notice a difference when you put your foot down.

Full breather mods would constitute everything from the intake out to the exhaust. Mind you some mods do much more than others.

I believe Exotich saw something like a 10hp increase prior to his headers, then another handful after his headers. The truth is that his numbers were on the low side, I believe that it was simply the dyno they were using that shows results on the low side.

If you take his car to any other dyno you will probably see numbers which are higher. People will tell you that this only matters when measuring max HP and not changes in power, but thats false there will be a delta in the power increase as well.

Thank you guys, i know i read a tune on stock FX can get 10 hp. I just figured with the mods i'll have asking to gain 20 hp shouldn't be asking too much. So now does this mean the shop i contacted is not good at tuning or do they not know our vehicle or am i really asking too much. I actually laughed when i read disconnecting the AWD. You can remove the fuse but the extra weight of the awd will still be there

The only thing I will mention is that the price they quoted you is on the high side. I got quoted $550 for the license and dyno time.

This includes a basic inspection of the cooling system, plugs and intake pressure test prior to putting the car on the dyno. Make sure anyone doing testing on your car does this as it prevents some problems once you get the car on the dyno...

Thanks MEME, i will keep that in mind. The only place i found in Toronto that does a tune is the guys i emailed. Perhaps i should look around some more. I thought $800 was too high as well

after using google it seems there are a few more tuners locally. I like the stock exhaust and don't wnant to change it till i have to. Maybe i can look into headers
