What kind/brand of Rotors does everyone uses??

Hello All,

recently i had my rotors machined at the dealership and they charged me 600 dollars for it and now the dealership just told me that i had to replacement my front rotors. for the front rotors they are asking for $430 dollars so im thinking about getting aftermarket rotors and brake pads.

What kind of rotors and brakes do you guys recommend?

Please help me.

r1concepts.com call them, i paid under 200 for front and rear rotor and pads.. its been a month now and no problems with it.. call them tho, they have a packaged deal.. make sure to get the hardware kit as well
 
If you don't want a Big Brake Kit upgrade, I would recommend StopTech Rotors and Pads. Akebono brake pads are very good too. I can get you a deal on StopTech or DBA rotors, we have some Slotted and Drilled rotors in stock, have Hawk and Project Mu pads as well.

The non-bbk Stoptech rotors are Centric parts, fyi. Same as R1.

^ +1 Stoptech are their higher end line.

I have CROSS DRILLED AND SLOTTED ROTORS BY KINETIC RACING and are Centric, no problems with them since Ive had them.

StopTech sports slotted and drilled and Akebono ProACT ultra premium ceramic brake pads. Since you are going to change the rotors, I suggest you do the StopTech stainless steel brake lines.

I'm still deciding whether I should just change the rotors and pads or just go with the big brake kit. I am concerned with the price that is why I am asking so many questions. Also I have a set of 22'' Helo wheels. Do I need to do any adjustment to fit the wheels?

No those wheels should be more then enough clearance. If u ever wanted to throw on stock wheels, u might run into some issues... Pending setup.

I wouldn't let the dealership do it for $600. U can easily get a higher end stock setup install for maybe $300-400 for both front and rear.

Yeh the dealership always rip you off and that is why i want to get it myself.

Can anyone give me feedback of positives of Cross drilled and slotted rotors. I had a set all the way around on my IS300. I knew that when I pressed the pedal I could fell the some feedback in the pedal (almost like a slight vibration as the pads rub cross ever slot and hole) Do they really give you any better performance then the blanks with good pads? Not sure I saw much difference in my IS

I am in Same boat as OP. I need at least rotors and pads in front and rotors in back. Leaning toward Akebono pads (Still can't figure out the difference between PROACT and Performance ones) all the way around. Just can't figure out what rotors brand and type.

No, it is a direct bolt on. Like what I said, I suggest for you to upgrade to SS brake lines. This will improve responsiveness. I also switched to ATE Super Blue brake fluid.

IMO, the stopping power in my car on this combination set up has improved. I spent about $650 on all rotors, pads and brake lines. If you go Akebono premium ceramic brakes, order them online since they are cheaper online. For the install, go to a reputable shop (not the dealer) if you are not comfortable doing it.

Consider these factors and the rotor treatments can be ranked from highest (4) to lowest (1).

B= blank rotor
S= slotted
D= drilled
S/D= slotted + drilled

Surface area.
B-4, D-3, S-2, S/D-1

Structural integrity.
B-4, D-2, S-3, S/D-1

All around performance.
B-4, D-3, S-2, S/D-1

Heat retention.
B-4, D-2, S-3, S/D-1

Pad wear.
B-1, D-3, S-2, S/D-4

Pedal vibration.
B-1, D-3, S-2, S/D-4

Cost.
B-1, S-2, D-2, S/D-3

*Notes:

1) If your blank rotors tend to overheat in your use pattern, a version with a lower heat retention could improve performance.

2) Drilled rotors are notorious for cracking. Cracking in blank and slotted rotors is virtually unheard of. Brembo actually casts their rotors with holes to avoid having to drill them for this reason.
3) Pads make a much bigger difference in performance than rotors.

This set up already includes StopTech ceramic pads. StopTech ceramic pads are good but does not last that long about 10K miles in my case. I replaced it with Akebonos.
