What is resonator delete?

TWO QUESTIONS:

- What is it?

- Why should I do it to my FX? (2009 FX35)

it's when you take out the resonator on the exhaust and replace it with a straight pipe, aka it takes away some of the "muffling" components of the exhaust, menaing it will make it louder.

usually makes a loud metallic sound during cold starts or cold revs, sounds so so

If done right it pretty easy to put it back on if you regret taking it off. I had my guys cut the resonators off and weld on straight pipes. Last about 5 minutes before I told them to put it back the way it was.

The sound wasn't what I was looking for. It's a preference thing. You may like it. Slightly louder and raspy.

I put tset pipes on mine no rasp noise they sound nice in my opinion friends think I got a supercharger in there

that would be a cat delete i think
resonator delete is a straight pipe, no muffler, noisy as a muthafuka.
i highly doubt that's desirable on a FX.

1) There is a straight pipe to the rear section muffler. On the straight pipe, there is a resonator that helps eliminate certain frequencies of sound. You will notice it as it's a larger diameter section of the mid pipe.

2) Better flow, a resonator has to create some turbulence to eliminate unwanted frequencies of sound. That's why you see "high" flow resonators that will do a decent job but keep the flow loss at a minimum.

V6 engines are not harmonically balanced, correct me if I'm wrong. V8's are as they are practically two I4's joined. That being said, V6's create more drone due to this and V8's don't. Eliminating the resonator on a V8 makes sense. Eliminating it on a V6, makes no sense unless you don't care about the headache you might get while cruising at certain speeds.

Well said ^^^^^

Basically, in my opinion, resonator delete is when you mod your vehicle so it sounds ricey or raspy.
