What engine oil to use for FX35?

I have a 45, but whatever Infiniti dealership service dept. puts in there... and I buy a bottle of Chevron Techron for every oil change....

oh, and welcome to the :iS:, I don't think I've greeted you yet...

Search my friend....mobile one seems to be a good one and the default favorite here. But others like castrol and amsoil as well

I'm coming up on my first oil change from when I bought my 35 and watch to switch over to full synthetic. After talking to my mechanic, he said to gradually move into full synthetic by adding one bottle this oil change and 2 bottles on the next. Has anyone been given the same advice? I was also told that M1 is a good brand to use but in all my other cars i've used castrol. I think I'll use M1 with the FX based of off reviews.

Ive never heard of Gradually switching over......when I did i just went for the gusto.

Yeah, it was odd when he told me that. He said by switching over I might encounter oil leaks since the synthetic is clean out my system too quick. I was very much perplexed when he said that and have been searching the web for such advice but found nothing. I will do the full switch over :6wink:

"clean out the system too quick"!?! WTF!?

Only time you potentially could have leaks, is on an old motor that might not have good seals (they say the syns are thinner & can seep in) I think that's probably a BS myth too.

synthetic oils

conventional oils have a tendencies in building up gunk and deposits, what happens with synthetics oils, they are very detergent and clean better so as to clean out the gunk, than cause leaks from dried out seals, then you have to fix the leak, I say up to around 60K miles should be OK to change with no worries, and all at once. ( just to let you know been an ASE Master Tech for over 25+ years)

Wich W is best to run on this engine. I had 10W-60 Castrol RS on my audi S4 but don't know what's best for the FX.

I switched to synthetic oil in one oil change. The only thing I did different than a usal oil change was to shorten interval for next oil change to 1000mi.The issue is not to gradually change over but rather to not mix old oil with the synthetic. No damage should occur from mixing a small amount from residual oil left in engine but I recomend doing yout first oil change after switching to synthetic sooner than normal-Sort of a flush.Enjoy your new ride!!! I had 52,000 miles on mine at time of switch.
I run castrol 5W/30:nerd:

I don't know if it's psychological or what but I feel my engine runs smoother. I gained about .3 mpg too. I'm proabably tripping but I drive the same way though.
