Why are you running such a high weight? You are causing engine wear on startup, especially if you are running that in the winter. Not sure about your year but for an FX50 Infiniti recommends a 5W30 oil. I wouldn't go higher than a 10WXX. I typically run either a 5W40 or 0W40 in the winter.

For the past 12 years i have been running only Mobil 1 Synth 5w-30 5k intervals without any issues

5W30 is the recommended oil by infiniti.

My car is up there in km's and a technician friend who works at infiniti said some cars benefit from moving up to a 5w40 weight. I tried it on a recent oil change and everything sounded a little smoother, so I'm sticking with that from now on.

15w20? 7 qts?

Your using oil that goes really far outside the recommended range by the engineers that built your car, and unless you have a high capacity oil pan, you are using 2 qts too much oil. Overfilling your oil is a dangerous game to play, you can literally drown your engine.

Hi, I use Redline 0w-40..gives it that extra bit..5w-40 like Meme said is also great...Drop a 300ml bottle of liqui-moly ceratec with every oil change also works great...7quarts? Mine only takes 5 and a half or so...Dont flood your engine!

Castrol Edge 0W40. It's cheap and LL01 approved so I buy it for my BMW. Just easier to use the same oil in both cars and if it's rated to go 15K miles on a turbo car, it should be fine on the FX which doesn't see oil temps anywhere near what my 335 does.

supertech synthetic. 5w30. it was $12 for 5qts, figured i'd try it before switching to M1. i was running blend before. supertech synthetic has been fine. runs smooth.

I run 5/30 high mileage valvoline for a couple years now here in Florida and I have, i believe a lifter tap. Not sure if i should try something else or just run as is. Here's a video I took awhile back of the he tap. We always keep the level in between the hatch marks too and Infiniti here recommends that weight.

I have been using 10W30 Royal Purple for the last 2 years after advice from the forum that it would help with oil consumption. It is expensive oil, but I think it did help a little. On my next change, I am going to switch to 5W40 and switch brands given how much of it I have to buy with how much it is burning, and save some money.

Anyone that has an FX45 oil burner that has switched to 5W40, any brands you have found that help more than others?? Thanks!

03 fx45, 118k miles. I run Mobil One 0w-40 (synthetic). I burn about 1qt every 1,000 miles - has been since almost new. Dealer did a "short" block test & determined burn was not excessive. As such I do fill ups using walmart synthetic 5w-30 (cheapest synth) I could find.

Good info! So just so I'm clear, when you do a full change, you use a 0w-40, but for the 1k miles "top off" you use a different weight at 5w-30?

Crazy that it's been doing that since new! I have been smelling it more and more lately burning off through the CAT or wherever it's burning off, and feel like I am rolling the dice by keeping it. Thinking about moving to the JX35 since the family is expanding... tough call!
