What about this for protecting my rear?? (intentional title ;) )

My wife is from Boston (Cambridge area) I watched people park in horror when we were dating. It was almost as if a spot that was really too small to fit into was a challenge......her bumpers were hashed.

I finished the install of my wife's hitch system (OEM), and so tonight I need to go out and buy one of those hitch locks that allows me to put the hitch bar&Ball on the hitch and not get stolen. Yes another concern of mine, living in the city, we have a TON of scrap metal collectors, and while I might have cost me $50 or more for the bar, if they can get $3 for it as scrap metal they'll steal it :(

So she drove the car with hitch installed to work today, but tonight I'll install the bar and ball and lock and that will appease my concerns for a while until I decide which hitch attachment I want to use.

Thanks for the help guys, I am on the fence between my two findings: http://www.sparebumper.com/ and one of these in black: http://www.amazon.com/Rhino%C2%AE-Hitch-Step-Black-Powder/dp/B0007N4JDO/ref=sr_1_11?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1329241308&sr=1-11

I'm not sure when I'll make my final decision.

man, here in nyc the parking damage is just brutal. I redo bumpers all the time that have countless hits, I'm talking about literally hundreds of licence plate screw divots all across the face of the rear bumper. the really screwed up part of it is that some people just think it's normal to bump when parking. I had one moron lady bump my car pretty good while I was in it, I got out and said hey, you just bumped my car, the "lady" gives me this rude look and says "so, it's a bumper, why do you think they call them bumpers?" like I was wrong for even complaining.... I pointed out a mark from her plate and she says oh I didn't do that... don't make such a big deal out of nothing,,,, wtf???? some people are just idiots...

funny thing is I always get customers that come by my shop with there newish car with a small mark on there bumper wanting to know how much it will cost to fix, I always tell them forget it, that is the first of many... it would be suicide to spray a whole bumper for that, it can happen again tommorow and the sad truth is that any resprayed bumper will not ever be as durable as the original paint so just leave it alone... I talk most out of it, some just want it fixed no matter what though and in most cases even a small mark can mean at least a $300 repair...
