Weird Whistling sound

For a long time now, whenever i speed on the highway, i hear a very weird whistling sound. I thought it was something with the wheels, i took it to the dealer and nothing was wrong. The problem is, the closest Infiniti dealer is about 100 miles away so i rarely ever go.

However, i left town a few days ago and yet again, everything is fine from 0-99 but as SOON as i hit 100 that whisling sound comes again. Its annoying. But i finally figured out the problem, apparently its my side mirrors and the air hitting it. When i close my mirrors the sounds automatically stops. So now i drive with my side mirrors closed when on the highway :P

Is this normal? Do you guys hear the same sound? its happens exactly at 100.
 
There are so many things in your post that just make me go :eek:
First, the driving at 100 thing.
Second, driving with your mirrors in.

Do you ever merge across all 4 lanes as soon as you get on and almost hit someone? :laugh:
 
lol... if ur going faster then every1 else.. u dont really need the side mirrors :D and the highway is only 2 lanes... i wish it was 4 !

No buts its not like i drive witrh them in the whole way... juts when its not crowded and i feel the need for speed :P But like if there are too many cars i take them out.

i have a whistling sound at highway speeds on my driver's side mirror. I thought it was fixed when a truck sideswiped it, but it didnt. I just try to turn up my music or ignore. I pinpointed it to wind traveling over the top of my mirror. but mine is at NORMAL highway speeds. :wink:
 
on the 2009 Fx, for the folding mirrors there are 3 settings. There is closed, middle, and open. Make sure when you go from closed that you put it in open and not in the middle. I had that problem where the mirror would just shake, and then i realized that i hadn't had it all the way on open. Just a suggestion

Yeah man at that speed you are going to get noise, maybe its there to help you pay attention.....
 
im more scared then annoyed though, i dont want my mirrors flying off randomly... id rather close them knowing theyre safe lol.
 
I get the exact same sound... at around 60 mph on the highway. Not ALL the time, but when I get it, it annoys the HELL out of me.

HOWEVER, Im glad Im not the only one. I try to ignore it but it's difficult. FX's here in Panama are expensive. I paid $65k for mine and I don't want silly things like that from happening to such expensive car.
 
I haven't really pay attention on this sound.. its probably because i always turn up music.. I will try to listen to it today during highway... I usually goes around 110-130km/h
so if it does happen, i should hear the sound.
 
hum, so at 100km (~60mph) you guys hear a whistling sound on the driver's side? i'm gonna check that out tomorrow, i always have music also...... anyways why don't u guys have radio or music on?
 
yeh, i dont get anything at around 140kmp either. Its really weird. Like im fine up until 99 miles (158km/h) as soon it hits 100 it goes off, like its some kind of warning to slow down :p.
 
so i finally tested this when i was driving out of town. I hit 200 km/hr and i do hear a sound kinda like wind but not too loud and i think its kinda normal to hear it as if you are driving so fast and there is a lot of wind going on outside.. you should hear it..
to eliminate this just turn up music.. not even a loud music already clear out the sound...
 
It probably sounds alot like ~100 mph wind hitting a fairly large and shapely object. :dontknow:
