Weird Vibration noise when accelarating?

Hi guys,

Anyone who's reading couple of my posts has probably realized that "this guy does not have much luck with his car". But I still love my FX.

Recently noticed a weird noise.

When I accelerate to 2K rpm or above, I can hear a constant vibration noise on the driver side (sounds like from engine compartment). It's not loud. The noise revs up when the engine revs up. It sounds like a belt noise, but I just got the belts changed like last months (without tension gauge, but done by professional mechanics). It is not sharp squeaking noise but just like some wires tapping or plastic shaking vibration noises from the engine. I have the mechanics list to my engine while I revving my car and setting my car to parking. And he found nothing wrong by looking at the belt and found no noise.

The mechanics have checked and found nothing unusual. And the belt tension has been confirmed fine according to his experience and not recommend to go any tighter.

Anyone has similar experience?

Thanks in advance for any information. :.smile:

I guess I will check my belt tension again. But without a gauge it's hard to test. If someone has one for sell, please let me know.

if anyone knows what this is please chime in! i've been searching for hours.. abs testing itself/need new breaks? cv repair needed? its a slight noise at around 2200 rpms.. only happens while driving, not stationary. cant feel a vibration in the steering wheel, just a slight noise.

Is the heat shield loose and vibrating? My wife's old J30 had a loose heat shield and would rattle at certain rpms. Just a thought.

Sounds like your heat shields are rusting away causing the rattling.

Had two seperate issues on my 04 fx. The first time, the rattle was caused by the heat shields on the catalytic converters. They rattled even while idle. I managed to put my fx on jacks and removed the shields myself. They were rusted badly.

Just a few months later the rattle came back, but this time it only rattled while under medium to hard acceleration. Took the fx to a local muffler shop where they removed the heat shields just behind the cats. They also replaced the two flexible exhaust couplings for about $160 total. Been rattle free since...

Hope this helps.

Thx for the info. I will definitely look into that when I have my car on the high raise. Right now my exhaust is loud enough that I can barely hear it. :tongue (2):
