Weird experience with the SLIP

Last night as I was driving home from work I entered a highway bridge which had a 90 degree curve. As I was approaching the turn I was forced to break a bit harder then usual because the car in front of me was going slow. As I was taking the turn & braking the SLIP light blinks & my brakes make this grinding noise & I could barely stop. I let go of the breaks & tried stopping again but it did the same thing. It had a hard time breaking & I was fortunate enough that the car in front of me wasn't going any slower or else I would have definitely ran into it. The SLIP light kept blinking for a good 20-30 seconds afterwards & it finally went away & my breaks worked again like normal. Any ideas what caused this or is this natural??
 
i know my car slides pretty easily if theres gravel on the road, or if theres thick lines of paint such as the crosswalks.
 
Whatever it was, the ABS was sensing slip while you were braking it sounds like.

On a side note, did you get those spacers sorted out?
 
You're staggered right? It might have just been that rare combination of a stag set up, braking and turn that confused the computer a bit..
 
Was it a grinding sound similar to worn pads. Perhaps road debris got wedged under the edge of the pad somehow, then worked its way out. Have inspected the rotor for anything looking wierd?
 
It might have been the weird combination of the staggered wheels...the grinding is similar to worn out pads but I get that sound everytime the slip comes on so I don't think any debris got stuck in the pads. I appreciate all the inputs. I'll def have it checked out. It was just a very scary moment when I was approaching the car in front of me while basically having my breaks go out. Oh & yes Stu, the spacers should be here around Wed so I will hit u up then if that's ok. Thanks.
 
Yeah, sounds great. I'll take a look at things then and see if there's anything that looks like it might have caused this.

The grinding noise is ABS activating. Nothing unusual. If you brake hard and turn that usually activates abs and/or stability control
 
When your on a straight road, driving around 20-35mph start moving your steering wheel left and right very quickly, Does your slip light engage, and do you hear grinding?
 
I have experienced the same issue under similar circumstances. Has anyone given you a difinative answer yet. Mine is going to get serviced this week. Last week when I brought it in the dealer said it was caused by my rear break pads being installed backwards and the shims were missing. So they charged me to correct the problem and guess what that wasn't the problem. Hopefully they can find the answer. I can't believe that its the computer getting confused that could be dangerous. Like you said you had no ability to slow down and you could have hit the car in front of you...
