Weathertech window visors/deflectors

Bump for updates. Still trying to decide whether to cancel my order or not.

was just about to purchase yesterday when I decided to verify feedbacks here. good thing I did. might as well wait...

I decided not to cancel my order. Those things are so darn useful, hopefully I won't have a problem.

Update: I took the front 2 visors off and did not see any damage to either side. Idk what caused the "crack" sound when I rolled up the window for the first time. I spoke with someone from WT and they advised me to leave my windows up for the majority of the time for the next several days to create a groove for the deflectors to sit in properly. This will be no problem as the FX isn't my DD. I will probably drive it again this weekend so we will see if they seem loose when I roll the window down after sitting for a few days.

I got a call late today that my window deflectors came in. I'm leaving the country early tomorrow so I can't get them until the end of next week. So I will install mine by the end of next week.

I take it you never thought about ordering them and installing them while you are on your little trip to michigan? Didn't you say it is way more expensive in canada? Just my $.02

Thought about it, but we are too busy here and I like to order from my friends shop to support it (he does give me deals)

Got mine in the mail last week but I'm still healing this broken foot of mine. I haven't even taken them out of the box yet but after reading some of these comments I'm going to attempt to put them on Monday or Tuesday weather permitting. I don't want to wait too long then not be able to complain if they crack.

By the way if some of you are still having an issue with the window rolling back down, I think someone already mentioned trying a reprogram of the windows auto feature. It would probably fix the problem.

Just put mines on today it was super easy and they look really sturdy installed. I don't see why so many are having problems with this install. I'm posting a video of the whole installation in a few minutes. That being said, if you are cracking the front visor or having an issue with them being loose, unless your visors are defective, there is no way you installed these correctly.

Video in a few, I'm uploading it now and will post the link to the DIY shortly.

Well, I went to my friends speed shop to pick up my deflectors this morning. When he saw that I had ordered the in channel deflectors, he told me that he has had constant problems with them in other cars. Then I told him that all the guys that have installed theirs on IS have been experiencing problems of one kind or another.
So, to me it was a no brainier to send them back, and I'm going to forget about this mod. I really was looking forward to them.

Yep having problems with mine. I updated the DIY with some of the issues. May end up sending them back if the replacement fronts don't work out. Will keep you guys updated.

Thanks for your reports, they helped me to make an informed decision.

I don't think it was a whole bunch of people who stated they were having problems. I do think I was the first one to post about a problem with these deflectors. When I installed the first set I received, I had no problem with the rear set at all. The front set went in fine as far as seating in the channel, but when I eased up the drivers side window I could see the deflector was in the way by a good bit. I pulled it out a little per the installation instructions to assist the window in the fully raised position. Then I tried to raise the window fully up and full down 5x per instructions. On the first time all the way up I heard a crack and the window reversed direction back down. The deflector then would not stay in place at all. When I removed it the flange that slides into he channel was chipped off. I called the support line and in addition to sending me a warranty replacement the support rep emphasized leaving the windows in the fully up position as much as I could. I reinstalled last week doing absolutely nothing differently from the first time. The deflector still made contact with the window, but just a bit and it didn't reverse the window. After the windows being up all week, the windows only make the slightest contact with the deflector when raised. Could I have installed it incorrectly the first time...sure. Do I think I installed them incorrectly the first time...nope. I think the first deflector may have been off spec a bit. I'm happy with how they look and don't expect any issues going forward.

It would be good to hear who has not had any problems with the deflectors at all after having them a month or two.
I also did a search on the interweb of problems with the Weathertech in channel deflectors in other makes off cars. It was some interesting reading, problems similar to what I have read here.

Have you checked the visors since? I took my passenger side front out yesterday because WeatherTech is replacing it, and it turns out that the lip that sits in the weather has a semicircle shaped chunk that cracked completely off. When I did the DIY video you can hear the visor crack when the window was rolled up for the first time. I assumed it was just the visor seating correctly. So now I was curious about the driver side because even though it was not loose or interfering with the function of the window, I did hear a cracking noise when I first rolled up that window also. Sure enough the driver side visor is cracked the same exact way in almost the same exact spot. I will post pics later today. I was trying to wait until my day off and do an update video on the DIY thread. Now mind you I am saying that even though the drivers side window visor was cracked I may have never know because everything was functioning fine. WeatherTech is sending me a replacement for both fronts and I am going to try pulling them out a little when I install them, as you stated you did. From installing them the first time around I am confident that if you can install them without cracking them the first time you roll up your window, then you let them sit for a day or so to seat in the channel correctly, they should be fine. I left my windows rolled up for 48hrs after the initial installation to bad the visor cracked on the first normal roll up of the window.

I was going to sand the lips down a bit where they cracked to remove the sharp edges and reinstall them since the driver side was operating fine even with the missing piece of plastic. I may still do that. I have a feeling that the passanger window was giving me so many problems because the chipped piece of plastic was still stuck in the window channel and interfering with the normal operation of the window. I'm going to post a pic in a few minutes.

As you can see they both cracked almost identically. This a picture with them back to back on top of each other:

This is a picture of me holding the chipped off piece so you more clearly see how it chipped:

Original O did yours chip like this? The fact that they broke almost identical, leads me to believe there could be a manufacturers defect.

It appears like the clearance in the window channel is just too tight to accommodate the window along with the thickness of the deflector.
I think you are right, that it is a flaw in the design, especially since both deflectors broke identically in the same spot.

Well, as a matter of fact...it broke exactly like that. I will say that during the second installation I didn't hear any crack when I put the window up several times. I'll see how it goes going forward and update the forum.
