want to lightly smoke/tint tailights

No, the tint shops usually do not carry vinyl tint. You can try ebay for other retailers but I like the color and quality that stickercity offer.

i got mine done with smoke/light tint from stickercity. the tint used on mine is discontinued and now they have smoke, not sure if there is any difference. i may find out since the current tint develop small even bubbles throughout and may be replaced.

i bought some extra and did my reverse as well.

it is hard to diy the corner rear due to the shape. i might get the rest of the reds done soon. also, stickercity recommends not going medium or darker on the head/fog lights.

hey guys, sorry to revive my own old thread, but i have a new idea for my tails. I want to do the same thing dr2k did with the blue and what gto did with his, i want to paint my tails with a clean/black mixture to get them tinted. not too dark, but not totally clear. do either of you guys want to chime in with the mixture amount or recomendations ro somethning of the sort? thanks!

We just told the shop to paint a medium center, & a light on the tails. It was a guess, but I think it worked out well. I wanted the LED holes on the sides to be visible, therefore not too dark. Then we masked the side reflectors & hit those again to get to med/dark.

I love how Docs look on DG also. I believe his are tints . . . . Doc?

Laquer based tint. John would likely know the answer to that one. It was painted out of a gun.

BTW, I gots a Devilbiss & a Binks! One day I'll make a booth & start spraying again.

just need to tint a clearcoat, wetsand the clear lenses then clear them with the tinted clear. stuff like vht is just too dark & by the time you get even coverage there too dark. if you tint a clearcoat very lightly you can get an even finish not too dark & with the glossy clear it'll look hot, like those^^^

ya i understand that you need to tint a clear, but is this something that is easy, or does a bodyshop/paint shop have to do it? it just seems like if you put black in clear it would turn straight black haha.

your biggest problem will be how are you spraying it? if you put just like 5% black in a clearcoat it'll be a pretty light tint, then several light coats to get the coverage you want. always do a test piece first & try not to get full coverage in too few coats, while trying not to need to many coats to make it as dark as you need it... always do a test piece, could even be a piece of plexi, then you can see what one coat, 2 coats, 3 coats etc really look like...

Mine were ice blue vinyl tint done at stickcity.com. But I don't have them on the anymore on the LED taillight part after the recall was done. But the tint is still on the reverse light part of the tails.

just wondering, what would you charge for something like this? that's the method i read about online, with the whole test it first, then see how many coats you need. hopefully JB will come back to find all the info he needs.

Ya, just like John is saying. Go one pass or two at a time you're you're spraying to get the desired tint. If you look close, you can actually see the spray (dots) that make up the overall coverage (opacity).
Kinda mist it on

hard to say, not something I normally do. depends how much playing is involved, also weather same shade all over or more elaborate like daves... I'd say expect anywhere from $75-$150 or so for the set

hey thanks for all the answers; thanks for ths pics. i think i want to do somewhere near the medium like gto has on his reverse light, because it looks alot nicwe than straight black like vht. yay

john (turbo), we will be doing this eventually if you have the time of couse:tongue:

Hey has anyone ever used tint spray for the headlights.. I'm trying to have them lightly tinted. My FX is Ivory so I dont want to go too dark-just enogh to complement the sport tails I recently installed. Suggestions anyone??

spray tint is too dark, you need a few coats to get even coverage & by that time there just way too dark.. these light ones that you see are custom tinted clear coat with just a very little color, so even with a few coats for even coverage it's still not too dark, not gonna get that out of a can though as far as I know... they should make a very light tint in a spray... vht & all of the copycats are just way too dark
