VK56DE, would love to swap this engine...

he's launching that 7 second car in awd, you can see the slicks front & rear, but he's also switching it to rwd first to preheat the rear tires in the burnout. it's pretty easy to switch to rwd with the flip of a switch I think... never got around to actually testing it on my fx or jb's even, but from looking at the wiring & the way the awd system works it should be a pretty simple thing to do

theres no chance I would want to swap out this engine to the fx, that would be a backwards swap, I'm not looking to build a rat rod out of the fx. engine swaps gotta be same year or newer, never older.. it's just not right. plus, the HR block is also supposed to be a real high hp block too... I will be able to make more power than I'll ever need with it. the vq35hr or vq37hr is a good swap that I think I can completely integrate with all the existing systems & wind up like a factory install, I'm def sticking with that, I just want this tranny for it :tongue (2):

this engine would be good for an s13, s14 swap, or maybe some other older nissan or datsun body, it's a nice engine because it's not every day that you can buy a factory engine with 1,000hp potential without having to touch the engine itself... I think these skylines & the supras are about the only cars out there that have ever had such strong factory motors... and both run this getrag 6 speed tranny

Has anyone attempted to swap in the Titan/Armada 5.6 yet? Anyone have any specs on what it takes? If my VK45DE takes a dump, I'm for sure swapping to the 5.6 if I can still use the same transmission.

Motor mounts, ac condensor move, oil pan fab, Bell housing mod......the further you go the deeper it gets BUT if you have the time and the cash it would be awesome.

If you are interested I have a 56 with LO miles ready for install =)

Just to give everyone a heads up, I have been PM'ing with Logan about the idea of the VK56DE swap and here is what our collective minds have gotten so far:

The easiest swap would be to get all the goodies from a wrecked or salvaged Titan/Armada/Q56/etc. That will give you the engine, all the wiring, ecu, hoses, radiators, fans, a/c lines, etc. From there, you will need the transmission as well. This is important because the bellhousing on the VK56DE trans is different than the transmisisons used with the VK45DE. That eliminates one major issue. It also frees up the issue of the transmisson computer having to figure out why the engine is making different power. I have concrete evidence from the service manuals on both transmissions that the forward gearing and the speed sensor output is the same for both transmissions. The differences are the lock-up speeds, shifting is off by 2 mph, and the reverse gear is a few thousands of a gear ratio different. The only issue left at this point is the oil pan. I have been throwing around several ideas in my head about possible fixes. The new 5.6 in the M56 is a completely different block so the oil pan cannot be used to make this an easy swap (of course) so some fabrication will need to be done somehwere with the oil pan. The main obstacles there are the sump and feed lines to the engines are in different locations, kind of a major deal. I'll keep working on it and talking with Logan on possible solutions to this. One of the nice things about the VK56DE is that it incorporates an oil cooler from the oil filter adapter, so that is an instant upgrade right there. Have fun with this topic everyone!

Seems to make the most sense plus the aftermarket performance support for the 56 is solid. Had I known what I was getting into I think I would have pursued this......lots of small incidental work surrounding the swap but the AC can be repositioned and an oil pan can be fabbed up.

not going to work with the AWD, the FX and the car platforms all pass the front axle on the right side of the engine, the titans and armadas and all the trucks that can come with a 5.6 all have the front driveshaft going on the left side of the engine... everything is completely different....

why is the bell housiung different? I thought that nissan only had 2 different bell housing actual bolt patterns, the 4.5's uses a larger pattern than the 3.5's... is it completely different to a 5.6?? I'm thinking it may be a a different part number and a different actual bell housing because the starter may be on the opposite side since the front axle is on the opposite side, but if that's the case then the 5.6 should bolt right up in place of the 4.5, how confirmed is it that it's a completely different bolt pattern? also need to check the 5.6 starter mounting points if it's on the opposite side...

Fitment is different, two bolt holes are completely off (I can confirm if they did line up I'd be probably be running the 5.6=))

Luckily Turbocad, I am a RWD guy so I don't need to worry about that issue. This is more of a project I have interest in for my M45 but no one on the M forums is talking about this kind of stuff and I wanted some expert minds to work with. If I do get to this swap before my wife wants a different vehicle, my VK45 is going straight into her FX35 that has AWD!
