I'm not new to modding but new to Nissan. I recently bought a 2003 Fx45 with possible catastrophic engine failure. Previous owner says the timing skipped. He started the vehicle, seconds later there was a "bang" and it shut off. I did a scan and there's several codes including intake timing sensor on both banks. I'm planning on starting engine removal next week, assuming I need head work. There is a local machine shop that I've worked with before that I plan to bring the heads to. If I need new valves (and the heads themselves aren't junk) I might as well get some porting work done and bigger valves if possible. I know the vk56 engines, including the heads, are similar but also very different. Does anyone know if the valves are compatible? Also could I bore out my 45 and use the sleeves and pistons from a 56 in my 45? I realize the stroke is different so I wouldn't end up with a 5.6L. I'm surprised at the lack of performance parts for this engine.
