I think he wants the convenience just insert flash drive and play through the flash drive instead of having all the cables then ipod/iphone or what not.


that would be kind of cool knowing it would work or not.
 
This is the most convenient and effective way I've found thus far.

This is a great question. I tried to play videos with my ipod via usb but it doesn't work. Just the rca connections.
 
In the midyear change 2011.5 fx35 with the power rear liftgate, they've removed the auxiliary jack in oder to cut cost. Ive been looking for the rca cable part because i have a sneaking suspicion that it will be plug and play since there are empty ports in the back of the head unit right next to where to USB port plugs in but i can't find the part #. If anyone can find it for me i would be forever grateful.

As for usb, i use a program called Xilisoft Ultimate Converter 6, but you can use any program that converts files into DivX AVI.

If interested, Ive played around with video settings and finally found the best settings that doesn't make the video laggy or choppy on the infiniti screen, because the built-in receiver of the infiniti is not very good.

As follows:

You need to convert to a Divx AVI file

720x480 resolution or less is what the screen will play, all others bigger than that will give "file unplayable" error.

Bitrate should be set to 4500kbps or less. Anything higher, you run the risk of the video being choppy because the average the system can handle is only 4k kbps with a peak of 8k kbps, but ive found with everything ive played i can get away with setting my films and videos at 4500 kbps average. You can try 5k kbps, but you're walking a thin line there. A couple of my videos were still choppy at 5k because the peak's were constantly hitting at or above 8k. So it depends how intense of a video you are watching.

FPS should be set at 24 fps or less. Any higher, the system can't handle and the video will be choppy and laggy.

Audio on the video can be set to whatever. I always set it to highest.

And those are the best settings that I can find after tweaking for literally DAYS.

If you can improve, let me know! Also if you want to pay me back for the help ive provided, FIND ME THAT RCA JACK/CABLE PART NUMBER!!! lol
 
Did you have any luck connecting AV jacks?

I've established which pins are used and there are two connectors in play, but I suspect the problem is we wont be able to select AUX input. I've seen this before with European Nissan GT-Rs, the US cars had a plug hidden in the passenger foot well that carried the connections required to add the RCA jacks but the EU cars didn't. We worked out where the connections went and how to add them but couldn't tell the head unit to display the Aux input. On my 2012 FX35 if I press the source button it doesn't give Aux it toggles through Musicbox, bluetooth, DVD etc but doesn't have the Aux input choice.

I've worked out where all the wires need to go and could make the harness but my fear is that there is no way of selecting that input. Pressing the Aux/disc button on my 2012 toggles through USB, Disc, Music Box and Bluetooth Audio.

Question for pre 11.5 cars; what does yours do? I'm guessing you have an Aux option in the list and that it appears regardless of whether there is something plugged in to the RCA connectors.

Could someone please confirm?

I gave up as it didn't seem a practical solution. I mapped it out theoretically and worked with a friendly dealer to get the Aux option to appear using a consult3, but then the audio and video are on different connectors and not ones that are generally available.

Thanks SOO much for this. I just used this on my JX35 and was finally able to get a video to play.
converted from 1080p x264 rip to 720p divx avi. and voi la it worked!
unfortunately the 720 x 480 in widescreen leaves a lot to be desired on the rear screens. with a widescreen aspect ratio, the Black Bars are huge.

Since the resolution of the monitor is 800 x 480. Im trying another video profile. mpeg 4, 800 x 480, bitrate 1500K, frame auto, Zoom - Pan and Scan. Aspect Normal.....

Hopefully this will work a little nicer, otherwise Ill try zoom letterbox and then change the aspect ratio to make the image taller, sure ill lose a little bit of the image but at least it will fill the screen.

I rather my 4 year old not squint to watch something on the rear screens if he doesn't have to
 
I owned a first generation MDX a few years ago. Anyone familiar with this vehicle will know that the first few years of this generation did not have an external video input. I modded a Pioneer RGB converter box using a relay and a switch and rewiring the box. Total cost was $130. Nowadays you can buy PNP converter boxes like

But they are not inexpensive though. I'm sure a little research may yield some other alternatives
