I wish I knew these engines had excessive oil consumption problems and gave faulty readouts with the asinine dipstick design.
Oil tested 3 weeks ago on level ground- and plenty of time after car was last running I got a satisfactory reading on the dipstick.
Got in to drive to work yesterday and heard pinging/tapping on start up and while driving. Speed over 40mph car started shaking. Needless to say car is at the shop and I'm praying I don't need a new motor. After "googling" my problems I have found I'm not the only one. In fact..multiple people are on their 2nd or 3rd motor before they hit 75k ( mine is at 76k miles) I'm very sad as I've loved this car and I'm not sure I can deal with an engine swap. This isn't supposed to happen to "premium" line cars.:crying:

Sorry to hear about your issues, bro. I'd seen some issues with this in my days on the Nissanclub boards but it seemed to only be very few here and there and on cars that'd been abused.

So far it doesn't look good. Probably will need an engine swap..not sure i have the resources or the heart to do it. I have a 350 chevy small block to drop in....now that would be interesting.

best of luck!!

i know a couple guys who had teh consumption issues, and had to ditch their cars. the dealer made it so hard to adhere to their testing schedule it's almost not worth it. they all traded them in.

Well 1650 + another 2100 for labor and apparently some parts...i'm back in business. Car actually feels a little more powerful and I can actually hear the intake when I get on it. Never had that with the old engine. Day I got it back I had an O2 censor go....and now the heat only blows hot when RPMs are up - blows cold at idle. Back to the shop she goes unless you guys know what could be causing it.

I wonder if I have been facing a problem with oil consumption now... This is my 2nd short block that the dealer is currently working to replace. My car is such a low mileage vehicle that I don't even know if my car is consuming oil. I only drive my car 2k miles a year and I change my oil twice a year.

I also drive my car like a 80 year old so I don't even notice any loss of power. Hmmm...

Same here...I drive back and forth to work (maybe 5-6 miles round trip) everyday and not much more. I didn't know about this until I googled it. I read a post from another extremely pissed guy who was on his 3rd motor with under 70k miles. I'm sure thats an extreme case but the issue is for real. I didn't suspect anything because I didn't see a drop of oil anywhere and I park in the same spots everyday. Problem is with the dipstick as well....not only is it a pain in the ass to feed back in - apparently it gives faulty readings due to its design. I'll tell you what though- i'm almost happy this happened because this new engine is noticeably different than my old one. I drive like an 80 year old as well....and noticed zero loss of power in the 2 years of having that motor. I can tell you that I will be definitely be changing the oil at every 3k miles and not a bit later.
