Very loud noise on occasion

I have the same problem as the OP. Mine has been going on for at least 8 months. Sometimes the noise is embarrassing and then at times, you hear nothing. I tried the 12PM/6PM tire shake test and nothing moved. I tried the lift car off the floor and spin the wheel test. I do hear light grinding noise but to confuse me even more, i hear the same noise on the side that does not make the initial noise. I think i am just going to buy the front hub and perform the posted DIY steps.
If you going to DIY your front hub bearing, watch out for the ABS wheel sensor. Depending on where you're located, the road debris and corrosion may have binded the sensor to the hole in the knuckle that you might ended up having to replace it as well. That sensor is about $125 + shipping.

05fxguy- the noise that you hear both sides are actually your brake pads touching the rotors

Thanks Drac. I knew it was my brakes touching the rotors but i had read on another forum that there would be another distinct noise if the bearing was truly bad. I heard low noise from brakes against rotors on both sides and nothing else. Really strange as when it acts up, the noise while driving is really bad but for the past 5 days, i have heard nothing.

Definitely will be careful around that sensor. Thanks.
