Used 06 FX 35 with no service records

Hello all,

I have recently stumbled upon the FX world and after test driving a 2006 I believe I am going to make the jump and purchase it - however, the car I'm looking at is a 06 with 46,000 miles and has no service records.... they put new tires, brakes and rotors on when it went through safety and the "salesman said the technician said everything looked fine" ....

Here is a link to the carfax - carfax.com/VehicleHistory/p/Report.cfx?partner=DLR_3&vin=JNRAS08W96X204951

The car drives fine, but I noticed at around 60-65MPH on the highway the steering wheel was shaking, but kind of dismissed it due to the fact it was just probably not balanced correctly since they just put new tires on it.

It's loaded with the sport package, technology package, chrome roof rails, lane assist, AWD and they're asking $22,900

Here is the listing of the vehicle from the dealership bergstromauto.com/used/Infiniti/2006-Infiniti-FX35-872e99d60a0a004900a5cd0c1f04ac44.htm

Any thoughts on the sketchy lack of records or if I should just keep looking for a different one?

Thanks in advance

The previous owner probably just didn't want to pay dealer prices for service. Being it is a single owner and a low mileage for 06, I would say you should be good.

While I am sure there are many reasons this could be, it is certainly a possibility that the former owner just turned the wrenches themselves. My understanding is that DIY service work would not be reported.

You could confirm much of this with an independent inspection of the vehicle by a mechanic/friend you trust. I always want more than records on my cars, I always get my hands dirty checking everything out before buying.

Hope that helps!

That's what I was kind of hoping for and wouldn't blame them, it is a very clean car inside and out and you can tell they took good cosmetic care of it.

I'm having trouble finding a link to any sort of maintenance schedule for the 2006 year and was curious considering it's age (and lack of miles) if any items like belts, fluids etc should have been done before hitting the actual mileage interval?

Wahooo.. that means my FX is still valued over 22k, 2006 awd low miles are a rare commodity.

As others had said, I too think the original owner did all the work or had a local mechanic service. I would say trust your instincts and ask lots of questions with the sales rep. Good luck.

Is the dealership selling it an Infiniti dealer? If it is not, have an Infiniti dealer pull the records by providing them the VIN. If still minimal service records, like the rest I would say probably the past owner is a DIY guy.

The car looks great. I would not be too worry about the service record since it drives fine. If there any body works, you can always see some tape lines and color shade differences.

Car looks to be in perfect condition. Like everyone is saying, prob a DYI mechanic type, just like me! The shakes is most likely wheel balancing, some shops lack good balancing machines or they just do a bad job. Work in the rebalancing at the dealer! Tell them you will walk away if they dont fix the shakes :eek.: . Good luck, and definitely a nice ride.

it just a wheel balance for the vibration, other than that it would be fine. if you decided to get it, its really a very low miles. here's the list that you might want to take care. oil change, transmission flush, coolant, air filter, might wanna check the belts too(since its 7 yrs old), do the frt/rear diff fluid and transfer case. and you're all set to put more miles. i bought my 2008 fx35 with 72000 mile on it with no service record with new tires and brakes also.

It's probably fine. And the wheel shake is very, very common on the FX. It's just sensitive to wheel balance and sometimes you have to tighten the steering rack bolt (look it up).
