Unorthodox racing pulley set reliabilty vs performance, recommendations??

Well was getting my car inspected and it was recommended that I replace my serpentine belts soon. I began searching IS forum and discovered diffrent pullet sets being replaced by other FX's.
I began reading that there where so many mixed reviews over them. My car just hit the 100K mark and haven't had any issues in my past 2 years owning it. Trying to find out if its worth the $300 to install this for the performance, increase mpg? mainly the reliability long term and any damage they may cause to other car parts, mainly the engine. I don't have any other Mods but the 350z intake tube and K&N.
What do you think so I do the unorthodox racing pulley set or just switch out the belts only ? Is there a DIY for the belts, couldn't image its that hard.

I have UR Pulley set on my FX35 for over two years with 23,000 miles without any issues.

I think from what I have read, the general consensus on the lightweight pulleys (whether they be UR, stillen or any other brand) was this:

If you have to replace your pulleys and belts anyways, its a nice little mod to do if you are willing to spend a bit more. But as a stand alone mod, just for the hell of it, it's kind of pointless unless you really have nothing else in your mod vault left.

Just make sure you get the standard lightweight pulleys as they have certain models specifically for SC'ed FX's.

Also aftermarket belts search up "Gates Racing belts" And grab yourself a set, they are worth the change. (we have a vendor on here who sells them, along with spark plugs and such as well).

Cheers,

Mine are underdrive and I do notice a quicker acceleration all around.

No doubt.

I will eventually be doing this mod, but it will probably be when I have little to nothing left I want to do on my FX, (possibly right before I do some headers...).

I've had them for a while now (the two aside from the crank pulley), and totally agree with this. They are engine bling but do nothing for performance or mpg. I couldn't even measure a weight difference on my scale...

Nice to know, I was thinking about them and for the price you would think they did more than just make the engine bay look better. Oh well.

So whats the verdict? should I skip them and just do a belt change ? Handy Andy sees improvement while tchuck doesn't did you guys get two different kind pulleys ? Or is tchuck only telling me to do the crank pulley only ?

I have a set of gates racing belts coming in soon, I ordered them about 4 days ago.

Tim (tchuck) must be referring to the weight of the Fluidampr crank pulley & the stock crank pulley. I know the UR Underdrive crank pulley is around 15 oz while the stock crank pulley is about 6 - 7 lb.

So you recommend the Underdrive vs the standard (I don't have SC or big sound system) ? UR website list 2 part #'s but part # they have listed don't make what online vendors have

Never personally done it on the FX but normally pulleys are not to bad once you clear room to access everything.

Maybe if someone can post up general steps from when they did it. As far as labour maybe 1.5 hours to 2 hours at a shop probably about $100 to $150.

I did it myself. Took me 5 - 6 hours because the alternator pulley was given me the run around. I finally got that off using a 600lb torque impact gun. Taking the alternator off the car was a chore as well. As for the crank pulley, an impact gun can't not get in there with the radiator in place. I put a break bar on the crank bolt and tap the ignition a couple of time. IMPORTANT! you do not want to turn the crank over. Just tab the starter a few time for it to loosen the bolt. Once the bolt is out, many said, you just wiggle the pulley off the crank shaft, but that not the case. You need some sort of puller to take the pulley off the crank shaft.

$100 - $150 in labor should be about right to have someone installs it.

I'm referring to the other two (alt and idler). I don't have the ur crank pulley.

I have an 08 AWD and no pulley options are coming up from the unorthodoxracing site, is there a difference in pulleys from 03~06 and 07~08?
From the Stillen website, the part#s seems to be identical, but just want to make sure before purchasing from unorthdox :)

Thanks.

I am leaning toward Crank Pulley only Underdrive from Unorthodox. From what I've read the other 2 pulleys are for show and don't add any performance.
I emailed a few shops today getting quotes $150 for crank only and another place said $90 an hour
How long does the crank take to install it by shop ?
Has anyone purchase this set alone and used with with stock alt and steering pulley ?

Unorthodox Racing 350Z Crank Pulley with Belts: Polished 03-06 Z32

Code: 350Z-CU10151.WB

Sayes it comes with 2 belts do I need anything else besides the crank pulley and 2 belts for the shop to install?
