underbody cover

I think the underbody cover (the one that is removed for oil changes) came off while I was driving through the snow. Is this a big deal? Will my fx be fine without it or should I get a new one put on? Just concerned about the under parts getting too dirty before I get from vacation to clean them.

It is a critical part for high speed stability. In normal conditions, it'll affect your highway handling and in extreme conditions (don't know how likely), the additional air pressure under the hood can cause the hood to come off.. I say get it replaced.

no leave it as it. i want to see a hood fly off!
sounds like it is a good idea to replace it, provides protection too.

it dont think it would be too much of a problem...most cars dont have one.

only benefit i see from it is better aerodynamics, and keep the dirt out

Actually most cars have one right now.. It was optional a long while ago but almost all new cars have an engine underbody cover nowadays.. As I said, I don't know about the chances it'll do anything on your hood but it'll definitely create more drag and worse aerodynamics..

You might not feel it on a straight drive but there WILL be a lift spot over there without the cover.. Try it out if you like but I say better safe than sorry..

I agree with EG3, I don't think Nissan put it there for looks. There has to be a good reason why its there.

Also think about what it's protecting. Your oil pan in right there. Really no room to play with in there. next time it might not be the cover you losing. I would get it replaced.

So I was driving to work this morning and someone in front of me ran over a huge piece of semi truck tire and it went under my FX and broke my under body cover. It's dragging right now. Does anyone have one lying around they want to get off their hands? How much do these covers run for?

sorry to hear that, you can remove it for now and it will be ok, some cars dont even have a under cover. You will most likely need to buy a new one . I recent read gto had the same thing happen to him and he bought a new one. (cant find the thread)

yeah, it sucks. It happened on the 10 around Claremont/Pomona area. I'm going to take it off today and order a new one.

Oh wow, that is a good price. Thanks for the good find.

^^
nice price, it is $104 on infinitipartsusa

Yeah, really good price. I'm going to order it.

Thanks

Just had this happen to me as well in the snow the other night.
909, did you just order "Radiator support - Splash shields - Front shield - 3.5 liter" ?

ahhhhh gkjjsdjsffrhfcvvcnjsk...now this morning on my way to work i was on the highway and the whole car started to shake when i would approach 60mph! Under 60 it was alright, still kinda shaky, but i can tell somethings not right. I do have some snow in the wheels, rotors, prolly in the brakes as well...do you think thats throwing the alignment off? or you think i could have messed something else up when the cover was ripped off?

Any help, thank youuu

Best to clear out all the snow and stuff from the wheel and barrel. I had similar experience 2 weeks ago.
