What do you guys think of wrapping the black molding under the door with the 3M DiNoc (correct spelling?) stuff?

It's not DiNoc anymore, at least, that's not the stuff you want to use. DiNoc was not great for wrapping cars, it was meant for architectural applications. It didn't conform well, was very thick, and tore easily. 3M 1080 is the material meant for car wrapping; or Hexis. I've used both and they are indistinguishable from one another (I've put samples side by side).

Get adhesion promoter, the plastic down there is a little more porous than paint so you'll need it. And I would recommend 3M edge sealer, it is a clear lacquer that you apply to the edge. It dries like nail polish and will keep the edge from lifting. This is important since it's the lowest part of your car and the most likely area to get dirt/water/rocks.

Don't know about 2nd gen, but Zebra555 did his 1st gen. It's similar, so I would do a search, there are some pics. He wrapped his entire car including the plastic. I've been meaning to do mine but have been lazy.

I would suggest to sand and prime the moldings, and then wrap. The plastic moldings is rough and you will not get good adhesion. I believe that's how zebra wrap his too.

Yes Zebra's lower mouldings were painted prior to him wrapping his car, this made the material stick better.

I wrapped the plastic underneath my front bumper without any prep work, and its been 5 months. So far it looks okay still, but the adhesion is not like any regular body panel, come this winter it will probably rip off.

Ideally sand and prime for best results, but then it is no longer reversible which is one of the main advantages of vinyl.
