Type of oil

Hello,

I am new here to the scene. Was wondering what kind of oil do you guys use and how often do you change it? I had a Lexus IS300 prior to the FX35 and I used Mobile One Synthetic Extended Performance 5W30. I would assume that it would still be good to use in this. Also I changed that oil in the Lexus every 10K miles since it was good for 15K. Should I change every 7.5K like the maintenance interval says or go for 10K? Thanks for any advice.

I use M1 5W30 or sometimes 10W30 as here in socal it really doesn't make a difference really. But I do change my oil every 4.5k miles.

And if you search the forum you will see there are many topics on this very subject.

+1 Mobil 1 5w/30w oil and K&N 1010 or 1006 oil filter at 5000 mi intervals. Also I add a bottle of injector/fuel system cleaner to a full tank of fuel when oil service is done.

I just switched to Rotella T6 5w40 on my M45 and I swear the car runs smoother.

As for the maintenance schedule, stick with Infiniti recommendations to keep your car under warranty. ///13847

I am also new to the IS forum. I currently drive a BMW X3 and I am looking to replace it with an FX in the near future  I was told by a reputable BMW shop (not the dealer) that today's synthetic oils are of great quality, they resist breakdown really well under the majority of driving conditions, and that using 10W30 under the manufacturer's suggested oil change intervals are good. Of course, you should change it more often if you drive in extreme temps all the time.

Since it seems that Infiniti's recommended oil change intervals are shorter than BMW's, I am thinking that following the manufacturer's schedule would be fine for your Infiniti.

Looking forward to my first FX!

I'm going to do my oil change this weekend and I was wondering if any of y'all have used royal purple 5w30? Would you recommend it?
Also has anyone changed the fuel filter?

RE: BMW Oil Change Interval: My 2008 330i holds 8 quarts of oil, thats why the intervals are much longer. I previously worked for a German Diesel Manufacture and we had 40 HP diesel engines that held 10-12 Quarts of oil and had a recomended oil change interval of 1000 hours! Using a average of 50 miles/hours that would mean a oil change at 50,000 miles. Moral of the story = Change oil at factory recomended intervals.

Fuel Filter

The FX's don't hae a fuel filter...

If they don't have a fuel filter, how is the gas ensured to be clean before entering the engine??? What is Infiniti doing differently...

I just purchase some 0 W40 Mobil Synth...oil for my FX35...Is this the best oil to use in this engine or should I be using something else...

You may want to do the cleaner before the oil change. Sea foam recommends that this be done because the contaminants may get into the engine oil after the cleaning, thus the change afterwards.
I haven't had good experiences with mobil 1 as it seemed to burn more oil between changes when I used them on hondas and others had the same experience, so I've been using German castrol syntec 0w-30 with great success. Highly recommend it, especially when auto zone has their sale. Been changing out every 7.5k with the bosch filter.

Does anyone know the part number for the Oil filter for a 2004 fx35??? I just ordered some oil filters from Ebay and the Part number 1520865F0A...Will this oil filter work with my 2004 FX35? I appreciate any help you can give me...They appear to be listing the Part number 1520865F0C now...Is there a difference???

Thank you so much...I was really worried...I really appreciate your quick response...

Again Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use Synthetic Oil with my 2004 FX35...10W30 and it works perfectly...You can go 7000-12000 miles before changing although I change it every 7000 miles...Synthetic has a longer life span and maintains the viscosity in the oil longer...

I use Mobil 1 5w30 in Northern California year-round, but have also heard of people switching to 10w30 in the summer months and using the 5w30 just in the winter. Also, I push the mileage a little further due to it being fully synthetic and a pretty freeway-heavy commute.
