Turning fog lights into daytime running lights DTRL

Finally took my new to me 11 FX50 to dealer for servicing and had them program the fog lights to turn on whenever the engine is running. Past posts had asked if this was possible so I thought I'd answer, now I no longer have to turn my headlights on to keep idiots from pulling out in front of me. :)

interesting, wonder if they can replicate the same for the gen1 series.

No, unfortunately not.

The reason this is possible on the 2nd gen is because in Canada and many other countries the fogs are used as DTRL's. So they wire them up in such a fashion to allow this, then trigger it on and off Via a Consult tool.

This is the same for almost all new infiniti models. (G, M, EX).

The first gens were different, there was actually wiring differences in the vehicles sold in different countries, and the DTRL's were not the fog lights they were in the headlights.

This is all what I have come to understand over the past while about this scenario.

Is this true for all 2nd gen or just the 2011 and up? And how exactly is this done? I would like to do this as well

All second gen. If your fog lights do not light up when you turn on the car, then you can trigger this to happen.

NOTE: This does not mean the fog light switch will work to activate/de-activate fog lights, it just basically means your fog lights will always be running. The only time you can turn them off is when you turn your headlights on then turn the fog light switch off.

To do this you need a Consult tool. So dealer or somebody who owns it will need to be employed.

EDIT: Oh and Rough, if you upgraded to a second gen, first off Congrats, second off take a minute to update your information... Comes in handy, when people are trying to diagnose or reading your posts...

anyone else going to do this? how much did your dealer charge for the switch? Seems like much better option than hacking up your FX.

did they put anything on the invoice for this?
The funny part about this was the service consultant called when the car was ready and said that it couldn't be done but when I got the car back, voila! My driving lights come on like Canadians.

Haha that's awesome it can be done but they say they can't do it, ridiculous. I went to 2 dealers and they both said no. You got lucky man lol

Car was originally bought here in USA. The warranty parts they ordered should be here next week, if I remember I will try & get more info when I take the car back.
