Hey guys,

Need some help, I am removing a lot of the trim on my car.

I am currently working on all four doors.

The piece that has me stuck is the chrome piece on at the very base of the of the car. This piece:

I pried a little and actually broke one of the white plastic clips. Even after looking at the style of the clip, and how they are affixed. I have no idea how to undo the rest of the clips without just breaking them.

I have a full set of trim removal tools, but I have no idea what to do here...

This diagram should help, just straight forward clips with double-side tape.

Adam, I think your diagram represents 03-05 doors or are they the identical design?

Wow that is really not what I expected.

I have already removed the door panel, but I havnt removed the interior metal panel, I have to remove that so I can reach in and unclip that "#4. Grommet".

That is a really huge hassle, to remove that metal panel I have to remove the window from within the door.

Hmm, I pry them from the outside with plastic trim tool. Did that four different times. I remove the 03-05 trim off Andrew's 35. I remove the 03-05 trim off my 35 and install the 06-08. Took the 06-08 trim off my 35 and install them onto my 45 without breaking any of the clips. I can only guess that the 06-08 trim that I installed on my 35 came off in one piece would be that they were not on the 35 very long so the double sided sponge tape came off fairly easy. I do have to use new the double sided tape for reinstall the 06-08 trim back onto my 45 though.

I think once you have work around the double sided tape around with a thin trim tool, with a little prying, the molding should comes off in one piece. I start the prying from the bottom and the ends.

Here is how the clip looks like. The broken one in the picture was done by me just now try to twist the out clip/cap off the stem on the back of the molding. If the clip/cap happens to comes off the molding, just need to pry it off the door and snap it back on the back of the molding. BTW, the 03-05 and 06-08 mounting clips are the same.
These are 03-05 molding.

Also what you can do is use a heat gun and heat up the trim to loosen up tape. That's how I did it without breaking anything.

The clips are the same on both pre and post face lift models, just the design is different, that's why they are interchangeable ;)

I guess I am just unlucky. Mine look and clip extremely different to anything pictured above.

I ended up pulling the door panel off from the inside and breaking the clips with a pry bar. Now when I want to reinstall the piece I can just buy new clips and snap them in place.

I'll take a couple of pictures for your enjoyment tomorrow.

I now have the piece off the car and I only broke one clip. Its all good though I figure with the double sided tape it should stay on perfectly fine.

Anyone have any good solutions to taking off all the residue for the double sided tape? I have goof off and rubbing alcohol and neither seem to dissolve it all too well...

No unfortunately I broke the actual piece on the chrome which holds onto the clip.

Its not a big deal I broke one clip out of the 6. With the double sided tape the clips barely do anything as it is...lol
