Transmission replacement

So my 06 FX35 has always shifted somewhat hard into third gear and I never really thought much of it, until the dealer had informed me otherwise! After having my vehicle looked at for a different item, the technician explained to me that my car should not shift that hard and he has never experienced an FX do that. So they ran all of their tests and what not and came to the conclusion that the transmission and module need replaced. They said its the first time they have ever had to replace a transmission in an 03-08 FX!!!!!! Thank GOD for the powertrain warranty, and thankfully it occurred at 69K miles, and not 70,001! Needless to say, my FX will be out of commission for some time to come, but they gave me a sweet 09 QX56 (fully loaded with every imaginable option) as a loaner.

I'm looking to see if anyone else has experienced profound issues with their FX's transmission, etc. I'm also writing this to forewarn others, that their vehicle may develop issues in the future.

while shifting from 3 to 2 in manual mode, i hear a metallic sound where the transmission is located, shifting has become an issue with allot of fx's, but still alot better than the new g37's that have a major delay shifting from one gear to another

was it shifting hard in regular automatic mode? or in sport shift? Sometimes mine shifts pretty hard from 2nd to 3rd in sportshift depending on the RPM, but both of my FXs did that so I figured it was normal.

I have a delay when shifting from reverse to drive. sometimes it would be 3-4 second delay. I dont think you are the only one having problems with the tranny.

Ugh.. I think infiniti need to get the tranny back to the drawing board... My FX has some delay when shifting when shifting from reverse to drive sometimes it lauchs foward..

Plus this is not the first time I hear about infiniti's trannies having issues.. Some of them are minor and since the vehicles are so great most owners just don't really mind them.

well in my particular case, while in auto, it will shutter in to 3rd gear (vibrates to the point where the visors rattle)

While in sport shift, it "clunks" in to 3rd gear and is quite profound while doing so.


All in all, Infiniti says i am the first transmission they've needed to replace.

Mine does that as well. It's sort of sporadic but it happens most often in auto mode if I am accelerating quickly and let off the gas just before it would have shifted into 3rd. At that point, probably 80% of the time, it shifts HARD into 3rd. Not "shift kit" hard either, more like a "holy sh*t my transmission is going to fail soon" sort of hard. It doesn't shudder or rattle the visor but it kind of freaks me out a little... I think I might have the stealership run their tests soon and see whats up.

At that point, probably 80% of the time, it shifts HARD into 3rd. Not "shift kit" hard either, more like a "holy sh*t my transmission is going to fail soon" sort of hard. id definitely get it done! and hopefully you get a sweet loaner like me, ha! The QX56 is crazy nice to drive, but wayyyyy too big!

Received a call from the dealership today that my FX was complete. Just got back home with it and it feels like a completely different vehicle. I no longer feel it shift and the shutter into third gear is completely gone. I'm very happy with the outcome, and thanks to Cochran Infiniti in Pittsburgh!!!!! More than anything, i'm happy to get rid of the QX56 i've been driving for the past week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm taking mine in to the dealership this afternoon for the same problem. My 2-3 shift is HARD regardless of how I'm driving.

I also had a problem with my tranny before. One of the hoses rubbed a hole in itself, and the dealer fixed it for free after my tranny went haywire.

We'll see what the tell me today...


Update:
Tranny shifted hard on the way to the dealer, but once the tech was in the car with me it worked fine... go figure. First shift out of the parking lot on my way back to work and it jolted, of course. I'll stay on top of it and see if it keeps up...

The dealership wanted to charge me $119.95 just to "run a scan for codes and check for updates to the tranny control module", and I quickly declined their generous offer. They also said I should do a transmission flush. I'm almost due up for one, but they wanted $249.95 to do it and I would rather do it myself...
