Transmission Fluid selection?

160-200 wont be a flush!! it will just be drain and fill.. they charge way more for a flush. they use a whole box of jmatic fluids for normal flush plus it takes more than 2 hours.. so start adding up those numbers.. i asked for a flush in infiniti of tyson's corner VA and they were charging me over $500.00 for it. i went to the nissan dealership bought the fluids and took it to a friend of mine.

ok.. so I'll be buying the transmission fluid from
http://www.mynismo.com/products/?id=3912
and will be going to my friend's auto shop for his labor service...

How many qt do I need to buy? I read here
///138
and it says fluid capacity 10-7/8th US qt. That seems to contradict what I've been reading here. I remember one of you guys mentioning 7-8 qt....

FYI, I'll be asking him for changing.... unless FLUSH is recommended.

Thanks in advance

bro to do a flush you need a whole case... thats what the guy at the nissan dealership told me. i asked the guys at infiniti and they confirmed that

ok.. so I got in contact w/ this rep from Cerritos Infiniti. This is what he had to say..

The transmission drain and refill will cost $129 and the flush $289. The drain and refill quart amount will be 4 quarts and the flush 12 quarts. Let us know if you have any further questions.

What do you guys think? Do you think it'll be a good idea for me to get a flush?

I have a 04 FX35awd and I don't know if the previous owner took care of the transmission maintenance...... I really don't know what the "FLUSH" is all about...

Thanks

Better safe than sorry.. As you said you don't know how well the last owner took care of the tranny. So just get a flush done and you'll be good for 60k miles.

I bought my car a couple months ago, and did not know the prior service history either. I did the drain and fill my self to save money and time. but i plan on draining and filling every 30-45k. So the fluids in my tranny should stay pretty fresh.

Go for the flush for peace of mind. But imho, drain and fill should be adequate. The service manager at courtesy Nissan said it is not recommended to flush and fill. but i'm not sure if he was just trying to "sell me" on the drain and fill they offer.

The 12 qts is about right. From what my mechanic buddy told me, is that they flush, vacuum and fill all at the same time. They use a machine to extract(vacuum) the all the fluid from the torque convector while your car is running and they are also replacing the fluid at the same time. They use the extra fluid you bought to help flush the system.
