Transmission Fix

No offence against you or anything, but I would never get rid of this car just cause the tranny slips sometimes or shifts hard. My FX was built back in the middle of March 2009 last year and doesn't have this tranny problem and hasn't had that update flash either. Although I have been in one that does have the tranny problem. Maybe I got lucky?

Even if it did have that problem, I'm in love with this car way too much to get rid of it like that for such a petty problem if it did have that. I guess some people are real anal about things. This is one of the best built cars I have ever owned in my entire life. When driving it, everything just feels so solid and built. The tranny in mine is super smooth with no slipping or hard downshifts from 4th to 3rd and no searching for gears or anything of that nature. Trying owning a pos BMW and going through 3 fuel pumps.

Believe me, I would love to keep this car but the tranny issue takes the enjoyment out of driving for me. I can't wait to get out of the car on days it's really acting up. I'm also concerned about the long term affect of the tranny searching for gears. I'm sure there is more wear and tear placed on the internals because of it.

This is my first new car, so I was looking for a different experience than this.

I owned all used cars before this and haven't had many issues with them. And I've had 2 German cars during that time.

99 C230 Kompressor
01 A4 Quattro with ultra sport package (5spd)
03 Acura CL Type S (6spd)

If I'm going to spend more money on a new car, I would like it to perform a little better.

^ I agree. I have done the reflash and the tranmission problem is still here. For those that didn't do the reflash yet, I recommend not doing it. It doesn't fix any problem it only soften up the shift and imo that made it even worse cause not only is the tramission searching for gears it not longer has that sporty shifting feel.

I wish i could undo the reflash. Actually I wish the it has a perfect transmision that exist in cars costing 1/4 the price of the fx.

At least the manual shift works great and the DS mode is not bad (still search for gear at highway speed sometimes which did not happen pre reflash....)

Lemon Law paid off. Pic of our new ride. More details to follow.

You got another one? I thought you couldn't deal with the transmission no more. It has the same transmission as the one you got rid of.

Lemon law replaced my old FX at no charge to me. I drove about 4 other 2010 models. I drove this one 3 times for extended periods of time. I didn't notice any issues with this one.

There is a reason they call it the "lemon" law. The old FX was not performing as it was intended... it was a "lemon". I get a brand new car at no cost to me. I put close to 30K on the old one, now have a new car with little to no miles and get to start fresh. To me that was a better idea than trading in car and putting more money down on another car.

what wrong with the tranny ? can u tell me more information? thanks. you can pm me if u want too. tahnks

I'm glad I have no tranny issues. I did have the re-flash (just because I could:wink:)

But really I have not had any problems with it.

Interesting so the new fx has 0 transmission problems?

I didn't notice any of the issue I was experiencing with my 09. I drove this thing for about 20-30 mins each time in heavy traffic and on the highway. I wanted to make sure I didn't feel any sudden jerks or slipping into gear during traffic

I drove to work this morning, it's like a night and day difference. All the shifts were nice and smooth. Acceleration was even thru RPM range.

Mine doesn't have the problem, and I never had the transmission software update.

For those that do, you have to take it to the dealership to have the reflash done.

I hope there is a lemon law in Canada. The only thing i don't like about my fx is the tranny. it slips sometimes and lags sometimes... otherwise this would be a perfect car :(

Would the lemon law go through if you bought it used with 20k miles ? I'm almost at 30k now, had it reflashed where I bought it. Drove it and still didn't seem fine so I went to a dealer an hour away, they said it was flashed (even gave me the printout code) and reprogrammed something to do with the exhaust ... i forget exactly what they did. Still noticed weird shifting and hesitation as if its bogging and I have to give it full throttle to downshift. I test drove a used 09 with a tech they had there and it shifted like mine (of course he says the new 7spd transmissions supposed to be like that. I'm like no this doesnt seem smooth at all.
I feel the same way, I love my vehicle but the transmission makes me hate it at times. I have the feeling down the rd (once the warranty is up) that something bad is going to happen and the trannys are like $10k.
ATL what did you end up doing to get through with the lemon law ?

Here the link for Massachusetts lemon law requiremnts.

First you have to have 3 repair attempts to fix the same issue and you have 2 years or 24K miles to file the claim.

Then you have to submitt everything to the state and to Infiniti. Infiniti has one more attempt to fix the issue.

After that you file a seperate set of paperwork to ask Infiniti to replace or repurchase your car. I my case they denied it.

At this point you go thru a state appointed arbitration, where you and Infiniti meet at the state consumer affairs office and an arbitrator (ours was a former traffic judge) decides what should happen. There is a master tech that Infiniti sent represent them. The arbitrator hears both sides of the case (opening and closing statements included) and makes a decision two weeks after that date. Infiniti had a pretty weak case and the tech was giving different answers to the judges questions regarding the transmission. At one point he said "there is a known issue with the transmission but this is not that issue." The judge asked him what is the difference, he couldn't come up with an answer. He also tried to say I didn't have the 3 required service attempt but I had all the documents to prove it.

3 weeks later someone from Infiniti office in Franklin, TN gives me a call and tells me to go pick out a 2010 model at my dealership and there is more paperwork to sign so they can switch the VIN numbers on my loan with IFS.

Sorry for the long post but wanted give you as much info as possible. You can PM if you have any other questions.

Nice. Sounds like a lot of work but I'm sure it was worth it in the end. Thanks for the info. If the fx continues to do this some more I'll have to look into doing this. I'm sure the gf will help me out with this too (shes better at paperwork than I am). She also knows that it doesn't shift like it should that may help a bit. I'll def pm you if I have any questions. Thanks again.

You had an 03 CL Type-S Acura?

Not to hijack the thread, but you mentioned you had an 03 Acura CL Type-S? The worst rated tranny I've seen ever. I say this because the CL was notorius for having a bad tranny that was eventually class action settled for an extended warranty. My 03 had an issue too and it shattered the torque converter inside the tranny at 73,000 miles. Not covered by the settlement or warranty. I dropped some $4500 to replace it.

Got rid of it and bought my '10 FX35 AWD in August.

Hope you're happy with the replacement.
