At 95,000 miles my transmission has given up on me. I noticed my car slipping in 3rd 4th gear and go into limp mode. Dealer said they wanted to replace the trans for 11k. Can you rebuild the trans on these?

That sucks. John, the owner of Import Perf. Transmissions told me the 2nd gen 7 spd is not a strong transmission. On the flip side, he rebuilds many different import transmissions. If you need it be built to hold more power, try IPT and if not, try a local reputable shop if one exists. You can always go the used route instead.
Before you go and rebuild or replace the thing, make sure it's not something to do with the valve body.

I wish in was near ipt. I'm in Portland Oregon area if someone has a recommendation. I had problems with that transmission after 80000 on it. I dont blame it though I was pretty rough on it. Yeah um surprised the mech went straight to a trans replacement, we couldn't try some cheaper alternatives first? He did say it was low fluid, burnt and etc.

Why not do a complete fluid change. If it is low and burnt, new fluid certainly can't hurt (except a bit in the wallet). It may actually bring it back to life.

If it's slipping due to mechanicals and not electricals it's most likely the clutch pack that's toast.
Clutch Packs

A clutch pack consists of alternating disks that fit inside a clutch drum. Half of the disks are steel and have splines that fit into groves on the inside of the drum. The other half have a friction material bonded to their surface and have splines on the inside edge that fit groves on the outer surface of the adjoining hub. There is a piston inside the drum that is activated by oil pressure at the appropriate time to squeeze the clutch pack together so that the two components become locked and turn as one.

New fluid will only make it worse BUT adding to the existing fluid a product that might claim to help could hold it together. A cheap test with not much to loose. Lucas makes good stuff.

I asked them to go ahead and top it off. Charged me like 180 for it. Still not working well. Is there a write up for the 2nd gens for solenoid changes and transmission work? Have they made a tsango for the second gens yet too?

$180 to top off a trans...that's about 1/3rd the cost to have IPT modify the valve body which you'd have to do as I understand there is no Transgo reprogramming kit for the 2nd gen transmission.
