Transmission Cooler

I have been reading and searching for a definitive answer to having a transmission cooler. I have read most who add a cooler (engine or transmission) are people that are FI or people who tow allot with the FX.
My questions are:

1. Will I get any benefits from installing a Tans cooler?
2. Does it cause more harm then good? (One member stated that it would decrease the pressure going to trans.) http://www.infinitifx.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16254&p=179098&hilit=transmission+cooler#p179098
3. Will it void the warranty?
4. I was looking at a Amazon.com: B&M 70255 SuperCooler Automatic Transmission Cooler: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51EE71FJW5L.@@AMEPARAM@@51EE71FJW5L , it doesn't have a thermostat. Is a thermostat needed for the transmission?

Product Description
Adding this B&M SuperCooler keeps the ATF and transmission cooler, and keeping a vehicle's transmission cool is essential for dependability, especially in performance applications. The unit is designed to be very efficient for its size and weight, to cool much better than an ordinary 'fin and tube' cooler, and to reduce the risk of lube system failure. Using fluxless, oven brazed construction for vibration resistance, it is built out of lightweight aluminum alloy and features a revolutionary 'stacked plate' design with multiple oil flow paths. The unit monitors resistance to flow by allowing a controlled amount of ATF to pass through a self-regulating orifice. Controlled by viscosity, thicker ATF is returned directly to lube through two bypass openings in the stacked plate core, while thinner ATF is directed through the core to cool as operating temperatures increase.

I don't think it'll be beneficial for you since you won't be really overheating your transmission it won't be that beneficial. It'll keep the oil temp at a given level but that difference won't be significant, IMO.

I installed a Summit cooler on my old Q, but they had overheating issues. Was the first mod for that ride.

The old torque monster . . sorta miss that car

I got one in mine. Only because I lost 30 horses when it my TM got hot. I used the B&M with AUX fan. it has a 180 degree thermostat as well.

EG, Howz The Turkish doin?

I don't think that's Turkey but this definitely is

Joking aside, I'm in Istanbul now, staying at the new W Istanbul over here.. They definitely did an amazing job.. It really depends on where you are.. You won't see any of those stuff in the cities but you might in undeveloped areas..

the W? very nice

& I was just messing with ya. I recalled that photo when we were talking days back . . like they say, it's like any other town outside the strip, but I have to admit, you guys come up with some pretty creative things. Scooter shot is crazy!

When are you back?

Just FYI. These coolers really work. After I finished installing my Engine oil cooler, I wasn't sure if the Oil was flowing so I grabbed the Steal Covered hoses to see if they are hot. I noticed that one was hot to touch, but the other was a lot cooler.

I'm guessing that the TM Oil coller with a fan would work even better.

I guess the other question is , will it cool it too much (optimal transmission temp) and is there any oil pressure difference (loss). I actually bought one and its just sitting underneath my desk, not sure if I want to install it. Considering I have a warranty that covers until 100k miles, Im thinking about leaving it alone.

Couple of things.

1. Eg3 is right when he wrote for most applications it's unnecessary.
2. Depending on the Size, it's Biach to find a place for it. I had to make a bracket to install mine.
3. The lower part of our radiator is our TM oil cooler. I'm guessing that if one does not Rev their engine as hard, that would be good enough.
4. The high TM Oil temp will only cause the TM to slip, therefore loss of power to the wheels. So technically, it will take a lot of heat to break the oil's viscosity level to the point of failur.
5. I'm not sure if there's such a think as Optimal Temp while we live in So.Cal. There are places in this contenant that don't get as warm as our colder days, and will have well bellow zero temps. Does this mean their FX will not functions right?

IMO it does not hurt. But if you want to do it, do it right. Get one with a Temp Sensor and a Fan. The fan comes on only when the sensor is triped. Mine stays on for about 10 to 15 seconds after I shut off the engine which tells me it's been on the whole time I've been driving.
