Transgo Shift Kit and Snow button

OK.... got a question for you guys with the Transgo Shift Kit installed.. Does it effect the "snow" button at all? We have been getting hammered with snow up here in Michigan this past week and I can't believe how effective that little button is! How does the kit effect this? Ive already bought the kit, waiting for spring to install, just trying to get an idea for next year.

I do love the snow button for a couple other reasons... my fuel economy has been phenomenal and the one day we got some clear roads and I switched it off, I fell back in love with my car..

AeroBFA's 08 FX45 has the Transgo and snow button, but no snow in Chicago to give it whirl :smile (2):

Yah but it affects throttle response so that the tranny doesn't shift at high rev.. but with the shift kit you alter shift points correct?

Are the shifts faster and harder when the snow option is engaged? I guess thats what I am asking here.. the throttle response when the snow button is engaged causes shift overlap... one main thing a shift kit eliminates.

edit..
Transmissions are set from the factory to up-shift or down-shift at a certain RPM, which can change by throttle position. Most shift kits raise this RPM slightly to more efficiently exploit the engine's upper-RPM power (copied from another website)

The shift kit alters line pressures and spring rates in the transmission valve body by replacing some of the valves, some springs, and modifying a couple fluid apertures. This in turn makes the shifting quicker and more intense under load via mechanics. It has absolutely no effect on the TCM, which electronically governs when the shifts occur in the rpm range.

Why wait to install the kit? Just get it done as soon as you want. In addition to having the 50/50 torque split, another function of the snow button/mode is to slow the throttle response, so even if you floor the throttle, it wont do anything. It will only accelerate slowly so it negates the shift kits effect.

Ok..I am a little slow...but I think I finally get it... this is my first automatic  SO the snow button doesn't allow you to feel the effects of the shift kit cause of its controlled throttle response.. (not letting you get to WOT) correct?

Waiting to do it cause I want to feel the effects of everything at once. I have a basement full of mods that I am stockpiling and when I get everything here I can get it all done at once. I am an all at once kinda guy... My bimmer went from automatic 325is to 5 speed supercharged rebuilt M3 over a winter... no better feeling pulling it out of the garage complete.. :bulgy-eyes: (well complete engine wise)

I've had this conversation before. You should try to do one at a time and spread it apart. That way you can feel the differences the mods makes and enjoy them one at a time.

It really is a good idea... Ive got ADD really bad.. I tend to hyper focus on things for a short period of time and then its on to the next one. Thats why I like to stockpile and go at it in one shot.. cause come summer time, there will probably be a new project on the plate lol.. Plus my "car" time had been squashed ever since the kids were born (why I sold the Bimmer) so I need to get it in while I can

Yah, I got a few connections in town still.. Before I went full time at my current job I had another part time job here with access to a lot of car stuff. The owner had since filed for bankruptcy and all the guys moved on to other places/things. One guy opened his own tranny shop so he will be doing the transgo kit. He is a tranny guru I just dont get out that way to talk to him much anymore and my current job gives me absolutely no free time (but when I do get some I spend it with my kids/wife) The rest of the stuff will be done by me in the driveway and I still talk to my buddy that did all the work on my bimmer so he will help tackle the stuff I don't have tools/time to do anymore. I am getting excited to start though.. this weather really blows... I am debating getting the car nice n warm and at least tackling the iPod wiring/extra amp to the bose sub/reversing the manual shift.. I installed my HID fogs, LED DRL and upgraded 6000k bulbs a week or so ago when it was decent out but its been crap ever since.. I need to mess with the fogs cause they are aimed pretty high and I get flashed every once in a while..

Sounds like a sweet list of mods you have planned. When I am out in the GR area we'll have to have a mini meet.

The issue with the fogs isn't that it is aimed too high, but rather that the housing isn't made for HID bulbs. The light will scatter every which way.

For sure, let me know when your around!

I knew that was the case on the fogs but the left one is angled all weird.. the right is bright but its not THAT bad.. but the left is angled all funky so I want to tinker with it and see if I can get it lowered a bit.. but again.. this weather can blow me..

My wife is starting to get annoyed with the stockpiling so it looks like I might start a lil early..

on a side note I got back in touch with a few of my buddies I used to work with.. The original owner went bankrupt and finally someone bought the building/contents and most of my guys are back working there.. So I got a few ideas in mind for some future mods..
