So it looks like i'll be moving from RI to San Diego. I'm thinking about towing a u-haul trailer that weighs 1,800 lb empty. I'd have to be careful to keep it under the 3,500 lb towing capacity. Has anyone tried this? Is the 3,500 towing capacity with an empty FX?

Sorry don't have an answer but you are going to love San Diego, tons of things to do and a great place to live(if you pick the right areas). I should be heading back next year....:xd:

I'm pretty excited. I got an offer from a job in LA and San Diego but after visiting i decided to go with San Diego. I love New England but I'm soooo sick of rain.

I worked in Boston before and other cities...

But once you live in California (Southern), you won't want to move. NE rain? isn't it snow, blizzards etc ?

Horton Plaza and the gas lamp district......mucho eye candy!

Ok so here is the deal.... An FX35 can pull easily 5k but the fx is limited to weight because of it's brakes. If you get the large U haul trailer with the hydraulic brakes you will be fine. Just make sure that they work so your car will not take all the braking. I towed a U haul loaded well over 4500k from LA to San Fran doing over 80 the entire way and not a single problem or over heating.

Make sure before you tow that distance you get an oil change, new air filter and make sure your brakes have more than 60%. down shift as much as you can rather than brake and leave yourself a ton of room.

Oh and one last thing, DON"T RIDE YOUR BRAKES!!!! epically with a trailer that weight on an FX you will hurt your baby bad. Besides that if you have any other questions don't hesitate to PM me. I have been towing with my FX since day 1.

Good luck and drive safe.

My fx sags a little but if your going to load her up and drive her that far it swould be a good idea to get load leveling bars. This will keep weight off the rear end and level out your car with trailer for better weight distribution as well as braking.

Ok.. So I looked on the search bar for towing, tow hitch, hitch and nothing came up... So this is the closest thread I found.. Does anyone know what a good tow hitch kit for our FX? I'm planning to move to VA from NYC and I need to install a tow hitch ASAP.. Is it difficult to install?

Thank you all for your answers!!
