I miss the ol' FX35 as a well-rounded vehicle, probably the most well-rounded I've ever owned (on my 7th car now). Right now I have my Evo (hence Evo Troll) and my beater car (2006 Kia Rio).
I want something that could tow, and if an FX35 could do it, I'd undoubtedly be in the market for a 2005 FX35 AWD. Since the FX family absolutely sucks at towing (never had impressive tow ratings, ever), I can pretty much rule that out as a possibility.
That said, what would be comparable but tows? I'm not redneck enough for a pick'em'up truck, a gently used 2005 FX35 is borderline cheap nowadays and is gorgeous and has an awesome interior, etc, etc, etc... so what similar car did you guys check into before buying the FX or what car did you come from that was similar OR what car will you be moving on to? Only one stipulation with that question: it has to tow. 5,000+ lb tow capacity would do the trick.

Can a RWD or AWD FX35 be modified for tow? I believe the original capacity was 3500 lbs towing for the FX35 and 45 alike, nowadays it's 3500 for the FX50, 2000 for the FX35 AWD and absolutely nada for the FX35 RWD.
Is this transmission-limited? I understand the necessity for a tranny cooler, maybe it'd take a VB upgrade and higher stall TC, etc? If I were to beef up the trans like some of you TT guys have done, would that equate to towing capacity? Big brake kit to retain stock-like braking with somethin fat swingin around behind?
Thanks for any and all input. Unfortunately modifying the transmission just to tow is an expense that I'd have to factor in to purchase price when something already able to tow might be in the same ballpark without those extra expenses
