too much drone

Hello IS

I got a custom exhaust installed today and it has a lot of drone. I was wondering is there a way to fix this? I read some places x pipe will do it and some people put resonators. I dont know what to do so any advice please and thank you.

im no expert but lets start with you custom setup. cat back or header back?

add resonators
and headers back means literally after headers including cats all way to muffler tips

Try a resonated X-pipe. It will take up less room than an x-pipe and resonators separately, you can also mount it further up than resonators and x-pipe and that makes a difference in sound suppression. I'm running a Magnaflow resonated X-pipe on my Invidia. What setup did you have built? Is it full dual exhaust from the cats back? Or do you retain the stock y-pipe? If you have a Y, you can't get an x-pipe.

It is an hks knock off from a g35 I believe its full dual okay usually how much does a resonated xpipe cost?

I forgot to ask if you put the resonated x pipe did it cut out the drone and did it change the tone at all? Thanks in advance

If you're running an HKS knockoff, then definitely get the Magnaflow resonated X-pipe, it's about $100. That's where I got my idea from, those guys replace the knockoff x-pipe with it and it drastically cuts down the drone and rasp. I would say that my Invidia drones less than others I've heard and the tone is similar, but a little smoother. The resonated x-pipe doesn't really change the tone much, it just cuts down on drone. Also the volume is slightly less because it cuts noise more than the little resonators Invidia normally comes with.

Just a thought.
How far do the pipes extend at rear? I know if they're too tucked, you can get all kinds of loud noises

Okay I will try this hope it Works! Thanks so much

Resonated test pipe thats where the cats are replaced right? And ya they are tucked for now the guy is going to extend it I think 3 more inches

can we get some pics?

get the tips out before you make any other changes. I'm betting that's your solution

I got it finished at night but when I bring it in on monday I will take some pics and soundclips I think im gonna go with the resonated xpipe

Gils on top.
Mine is on bottom & a little farther out. The sound is perfect, & zero drone at any speed

Hey shadow. Is the resonsted xpipe you put on your invidia a direct bolt on? My invidia drone is getting to me more and more.

My x-pipe on my FX didn't do nothing about the drone. A resonated x-pipe or bigger resonators could work. Also the position of resonators is very important alteringthe sound frequencies differently.

Drone is the result of harmonic resonance in the muffler/resonator. This harmonic is amplified in the exhaust system and manifests itself in the cabin of the car. You can add a couple of straight through glass packs (resonators) to the exhaust. Adding the wrong size resonator or putting one in the wrong place will just as likely increase the drone as well.

And whatever you do, do not Dynamat the car. It will just muffle the sound, and add weight to the car.
