To memebers who have plasti diped.

Honestly Plastidip is still "temporary" to me - or you do it to see if you like the look, then you get it painted. The texture is gross

Yeah exactly jbaker. Im thinkin about getting it sprayed or vinyled. How much do you think it cost to do all the chrome parts? Idk any shops around my area.

Is there anyway to get rid of a scratch mark on our grills? Im planning on wrapping it and if i do the scratch is going to show.Is there a way to fill it up?

Shes a little dirty. The plasti dip attracts d nedust and other stuff a lot aneds constant wiping.

I've done the rear the way you did. I like the dipped front grill! Might be doing that soon..

the grill was a bit more challenging to paint. had to do a lot of layers to get the very back of the grill. Suggest getting some lighitng to make sure you get the back of the grill covered. I thought i was finished and held the grill up and the backs werent covered well.

No offense bro but seeing that plasti dipped grille reminds me of why I ended up getting mine professionally painted.

I tried it on the grille before and it looked horrendous especially in direct sunlight. If I were you I would just spend some $$ and get it professionally done. Atleast the plasti dip is only temporary.

Yeah i dont like the texture on the plasti dip. I only did it to see what it would look like blacked out. I dont like the rubbery feel and how it collects so much dust. Going to get it either wraped or painted in the summer. How much did it cost you to get ur grill done?

I agree with Aaron, I hate plastidip personally, looks cheap IMO. I Would get them painted gloss black

It is not even debatable as to whether or not painting something trumps plasti-dipping it. However I'm sure you guys will all agree, for a hassle-free $7.99 fix, plasti-dip aint that bad! Of course getting something professionally painted gloss (or matte) black looks better. And I definitely agree, the larger the surface, the more imperfections that show.

I only paid $80 to have mine painted at a shop body color. I will never understand the Plastidip fad; maybe for a temporary fix of some old winter wheels or something. Just because something is easy doesn't make it good. That's the only reason I've ever seen someone give for - it's so cheap and easy!

You wont get texture on small things like emblems but when you do the grille the way to get it as smooth as possible is doing the first two layers as light as possible. basically just spray across the whole thing lightly. it'll dry quickly and itll feel rough. then do a medium layer and the last one should be thick. I did this on my grille and roof rack and they are as smooth as paint. of course paint would look better and not attract dirt and dust as much but i really like the thought of going back to stock.

The way I look at it, to each their own. I know I wanted a matte black grill and would want to pay more when I can use dip. If I wanted gloss, I would get it painted.

Anyone try to glossifier? I wonder if that makes it look better....

I have tried it twice. First time was on this kids BMW 3 series who heard about how I dipped the front grill and rims for a friends A4. He wanted me to match his gloss metallic black rims. I did match it and it came out pretty well. Thing is, I haven't seen the kid since. I also tried it on my Harley Truck's taillights. Im not sure if I like it. To the day, if its clean, it feels sticky. You also need quite a few layers to really get it to shine. I did 3 layers on to of 5 layers of smoke dip and it still not as shiny as I would like. Its kinda of a difficult product to use, outcome wise. When applying its easy to get even coats, but sometimes the outcome isn't what you are looking for.

Either way, giving it a try can't hurt...

i bought plast glossifier couple days ago, im going to use it this weekend hopefully the colors doesnt fade overtime

Plastidip is supposed to feel sticky. It's main purpose was as a no-slip coating for tools. That's why it gets dirty so easily and the texture is weird.

Yeah, you're right, but its weird with the glossifier. I have used plenty of the standard dip in multiple colors and is all relatively smooth. The glossyness makes it feel as if it werent dry. I think it has to do with the amount of layers. The more layers the stickier. The taillights i did were very sticky because i had 8 or 9 layers total. When i did it on the BMW grill it was only about 4 total. None of the dip i used on the trim of my FX50S or my Harley Truck was as sticky as the taillights. It hol up the same just a different texture. most of regualar dip, if done right wont have a texture
