Hello All,
great forum.
Long time lurker, first time poster.

I need new tires for my stock 2005 FX35 AWD, and thought Id ask you all for some recommendations.
Here are some factors that might help your recommendations:

I will be using the same tires year round, and need an all weather type.

Ride comfort, and low road noise are high priorities, but Id like the tire to look as cool as possible too.

and for bonus points, Id like to lower the car a bit in the future, [im not sure if that impacts the tire choice.]

Thanks in advance for the help.

All the best,
Sean

Well I have tried the Yokohama Parada Spec X and the Nitto NT420 (current).

The Yokos i like but the tread isnt as cool as the nittos... altho the nittos in the rain is a bit scary...

im not too crazy about tires but hopefully another iS fam member will chime in...

I currently have the Yokohoma Prada's and they are good. Im happy with them.
Low Noise, handles pretty well....but I do live in SoCal so the weather isnt that drastic.

had the parada's on through some snow, there pretty good all season tires even in snow & there great in the rain...

you didn't say if you have 18" wheels or 20" wheels though

You can consider Hankook RH06 as well.. Pretty good tire in both snow, rain and dry as far as I know. Falken STZ04 gets good reviews as well.. If you get in stock or close to stock sizes lowering won't affect anything. If you like an even lower stance, you can get your tires in 275/45/20 size. Snow/wet performance doesn't get affected, dry performance is better and thinner sidewalls make a more aggressive look. The sidewalls will bulge a little with stock 20s but doesn't look bad.. All this for 20s of course.. If you have 18s, stick with the stock size.

I've tried some other tires so far:
Bridgestone Dueler H/L : Better than runflats but that's it. It's an average tire in all conditions.
Yokohama Geolandar: Got it in 275 size. Very good tire in especially snow and wet, soft ride and quiet. Wears down relatively quickly though.. Can be a good alternative if you have too much snow in your region.
Falken STZ04: I've been using them for 2 days only in 22" size but so far they are comfortable. Noise is average.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Does anyone know how these recommendations compare to the 18" pontezas that came on the car?

all the best,
Sean

I believe the Potenzas you have are the runflats that I had, the RE92A model.. Whichever tire you get from the recommended ones in this thread, it will improve the comfort and it will improve the snow handling because they're not runflats. If you plan to stick with runflat tires though, you'll have very limited choices.

Basically, runflat tires have very stiff sidewalls which allows it to go some distance when they're punctured but it also stiffens the ride a lot. They're also expensive. Since the thread compound these tires have are not soft as well, they suck at snow mostly. A good all-season tire (like Paradas or Hankooks) will make you happy in wet & snow as well as comfort.

If the potenza's are runflats then they will say RFT somewhere on the sidewall in fairly big letters. i have the RFT's in 20"

I had the Yokohama Geolanders on my QX4 and they were some of the best tires I have tried in the snow.I'm mounting the Hankook Ventus RH06's on my 22's this weekend. From the research I have done the Hankooks seem to be the best for all weather conditions in a 22 size.

Thanks again for all of the help.
Anyone have any experience with the Yokohama AVID V4S?

all the best,
