TINTED rear windshield brakelight

thanks! thats great cuz the Diamond Graphite WV2* color is the same as mine and so its great reference!!!!!!

but i still wanna see sum1's who got it painted....

(*thats gto-dave's car right?)

I painted mine with some model paint. Didn't put on heavy coats so you can still see the red but its better then stock. Here are a couple of pictures. The first was taken with a flash and the second is without. Both pictures were taken about the same time at about 7pm dusk. Also painted my rear reflectors as well. I treid putting on Bats rear brake light tint but the cut wasn't an exact fit so I scraped it.

do you think that if i used the spraypaint they make specifically for auto brakelights that it will come out black like the plastic above the windshield? cuz that would look saweet

Whatever paint you use it all depends on how many coats you put on there. But I don't think you should totally black them out cause you want to have the lights to be seen from the rear when you apply the brakes.

well i mean i've seen cars with completely blacked out tailligths and you can see them fine......so wouldn't it work?

i'll see if i can find a pic somewhere......i was hoping i could make ti match the plastic

Theres a BMW around here that has them blacked out and in my opinion makes the car look ghetto. Just my 2 cents though....

its not all of them! just the one above the rear windshield!!! LOL

I want to see if i can match the color to the plastic kind of.....like a really dark dark tint (scroll down to the white car...a tint that color http://tl.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153769

or the lights on this... http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c200/radioflyer1986/CIMG1050.jpgthey almost match the ppaint and you can see right thru them when you press the brake)

i guess i want to smoke it....? would that be the proper phrase?

go to a hobby shop and look for TESTORS spray paint (its for hobby cars n planes) get TRANSPARENT BLACK. take the 3rd brake light off, clean it with alchohol, paint away ( 6 very light coats.. do not rush this paintjob). wait for it to dry and put it back on. make sure you do it during the day while its not too cold or damp otherwise youll get fogging of the paint.
that will look jet black and the light will shine through no problem

its the best for tinting lights. its designed for plastics and the transparent black is actually used for tinting the windows on the models. the candy red is good for eliminating the orange on rear lights (unlike our awesome led setup)
there is another brand that is just like testors and ALMOST as good... and the tips that come on the cans are a great tip giving high coverage with no thin spots

sounds saweetttttttt. thanks a bunch! i think im going to do that rather than use the bat overlay because im looking to smoke it out....(black it out?) comepletely so it blends with the plastics. thanks!

ive used the red many times and the black a few times. on my z3 i used it to black out the orange front rear and side... all lights worked great at night and during the day. i originally smoked out my inner reverse lights on the fx but have since switched to the smoke. just remember to take your time with the paint because if you apply it to thick or if the temp is too cold n damp (dusk/sunset is good example) the paint will haze and turn white. if this happens, you can remove it with a scotch pad and alcohol after 3days (curing time for the paint)
good luck and feel free to let me know if you need help

sounds cool, I see some cars running around here with there lights so friggin dark that you can barely even see them, when there braking there not even as bright as a normal parking light...

I would like to try tinting headlights from the inside just a little bit, gonna check this testors paint out... the hardest thing is getting even coverage when your not looking to make it too dark...

VHT NIGHTSHADES is the best, there made specificlly for lights, look it up, i did it on mine and they came out great

sweet!!!!! guys thanks for the help i really appreciate it :rolleyes:

i need to decide what im gonna do....

I used to be able to run to the local autoparts & pick up spray tint made for lights, but no ones got it anymore every place I look...

testors will be real easy to go from light tint to black. i used to practice on water bottles but i know youve logged some hours behind a spraygun

I've been thinking of tinting my own clear, then I can spray it with a really good gun, might play with that to. have you seen this testors transparent black in liquid quantities or just aerosols?

they have it in lil hobby size bottles... like 2" tall 1" circumference... its prolly better to make up your own batch since you have the know-how and ability... testors is more for normal people like me... although i did have a friend who loved their metallic green SO MUCH, he painted his entire 53 buick with the stuff. took alot of cans... especially as they are the mini-cans ( about 1/2 size) but thats what you do when youre 20 and broke (even though it must of cost just as much as earl schieb which is what it looked like in the end)
