Tint for front windows

Hi,

Does anyone know how dark of a tint I can legally go in the front windows without being bothered by the police? I live in PA. Also, is this something I can order online already pre-cut?

Thanks!

I think PA is kind of bad for tints. Just look up the law online

Quick search don't know how up to date it is

I believe in PA anything below 70% is illegal. Although I'm not too sure. That's the way it is in most states. If you do a very light tint you won't even notice which means you might as well not do it at all.

If it were me I would do 35% on the front windows or 20%. Dark and illegal but who cares. A lot of people tint their windows and it's just plain illegal. I have my front windows tinted 35% and my windshield tinted 50%. I've gotten about 5 tint tickets in the past 2 years.

And don't tint your windows yourself. It's best to leave that to the professionals.

Just looking at the Illinois portion of that. There are different rules for which windows you have to. I believe for IL you can have the back as dark as you want if you leave the front 50% or less (50%^) but all around I think it is 35. So look for like the legit PA laws. Most guys I think have it done somewhere. But you can order film as well

Move to TX and get 5% legally. :) You can get an exemption from the state if your eye dr. will complete a simple form . Damn photophobia. 100% dark and 100% legal! It is nice when its over 100 outside, it does suck ass at night unless you have a camera :) Good luck!
Check on the PA state website. In TX its just a Medical Tint Exemption. It was free and we had the letter within 4 days of faxing it to the state.

Here you go.... http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/vi/consumerinfo/windowTint.htm

Motorists may request a medical exemption from the Texas Department of Public Safety by submitting an application and a signed statement or prescription from a licensed physician or licensed optometrist. This statement should state that it is his or her opinion that the exemption is necessary to safeguard the motorist’s health.

Medical Exemption Application

Note: The medical exemption allows motorists to place a darker tint on the front side windows and the upper portion of the front windshield (top 5 inches or above the AS-1 line, whichever is less). The exemption does not, however, allow a motorist to place a sun screening device on the rest of the front windshield.

so what happens if you drive to another state like NY or Illinois that will ticket you left and right even when just parked?

That's the "great" thing about out of state tix... Most people won't go through the trouble by going to court and have the ticket thrown out; though some can be contested via mail. Most times, it's just easier to pay.

True. Do you have dark tints? I like to think Chicago police have better things to do than give tint tickets. Their always on van Buren and I have yet to get one...

Yea I park on streets every day in Chicago everyday

Factory rears?

I went darker since light coming through the windshield would lighten up my tint a bit. So the 18 matches the factory 20 or whatever it is.

This stumped me mostly because I guess I never cross state lines. It takes a whole to get out of tx from Dallas! Second, and an intelligent thought/response would be that other states can and will enforce their laws. We keep the state letter in the glove boxes. Also I guess in TX, state tint regulations and inspection limitations are different.

I have never had a car with a front plate and have never been harassed for tint.

On my 03, I asked for them to match the fronts to the rear privacy glass.

If you are legal to the requirements and statutes of the state where your car is registered, then other states must honor it, so if your tint is legal in TX, NY courts can not convict you if you are visiting. But, that does not mean a cop won't give you a ticket and require you to present your defense in court. It would be an easy win, but you would still have to show up or hire a lawyer to represent you in absentee, though most prosecutors would throw out the charge with a quick phone call to their office. The flip side is most cops are not going to bother writing an out of state car on a charge like this, unless you do something to piss them off, like parking in two spaces at the same time or having a "F@#* da Police!" bumper sticker.
