Ticking Noise from Engine

Greetings All,

My 2005 FX45 (113k) recently developed a ticking sound during normal use. The car had been down for a couple weeks in my garage while I slowly replaced the front suspension on it. The day after getting the suspension in I took it to get properly aligned and promptly took it out for a leisurely cruise. After an hour or so of driving I noticed the sound at a stop sign and promptly pulled into a gas station to let the engine cool and check the oil. The oil in the car has never been an issue and has no signs of any leakage as it's regularly maintained, however it was running pretty low. I purchased some oil from the station and added a quart into it. After letting the engine warm back up (While the ticking continued) I decided I was going to limp it home.

I've uploaded a short video of the sound and it's available at the unlisted link below. Pardon the dirty engine bay, it's definitely had better days.

I'm thinking it may be an issue with a rocker arm or something of the sort. The sound will continue regardless of low or high revs. I was hoping someone may have an idea where I can start looking to fix this.

I can't say for sure, nor do I have direct experience with the v8 engines in your vehicle. But that definitely sounds like something more extreme than a sticky valve lifter. I'm not too familiar with rocker arm noises. I've had good experience locating the source of engine noises using an old fashioned stethoscope. Hopefully it's not coming from the bottom end. Good luck with her, and let us know if you make any progress.

I took the car in for service to fix the ticking sound mentioned in this thread. It ended up not being the timing chain and instead was the Fuel Dampeners (All 3 were replaced). After replacing them the sound has disappeared.

Within this image the columns read left to right, Parts/Labor/Total. Total repair costs for this specific ticking was $905.47 at my local shop.

Posting for anyone else to reference.
