Throttle stuck?

So this morning's commute to work was a bit special. My drive to work is about 20km at most. It is not particularly cold today (about -10C). Almost all of the ride to work was fine except when I got to the last block or so from my work I started easing up on the gas but the FX kept it's speed (60KM/h). I checked and the cruise controle was on but not set. I shut off the cruise and it kept going still :S

I was able to break even if I heard the engine working a bit, got to the parking lot, shut off the engine, restarted it and it still was reving up.

I did use cruise on the way to work just before it happened. I also heated the garage yesterday to get the ice to melt and stuff but the fx still slept outside all night so I'm assuming this has nothing to do with the problem or I would have noticed it before the end of my commute.

By the way my commute to work involves a lot of stop and go traffic, stop signs and red lights so I know for a fact that it only started happening at the end of the commute.

This post is already longer then I intended lol but any idea what could be the issue? Stuck throttle cable? Do they even run on cables?? Or cruise controle acting up? I'm a bit scared to get back home now.

Thanks guys!

The throttle is controlled by the ECU and through throttle body. Hopefully it's not the ECU. I would start by checking if there is something preventing the throttle body to move freely. There is a DIY guide on here, which outlines the procedure on how to clean a throttle body.

Thanks, I cleand the TBs a year ago so I remember how to access them. I'll check when I get home if it's not too bad. If it is bad ie higher Rpms then this morning then I will have to drop it off at the dealer which is on the way. I'll post results.

The throttle or idle was still a bit high (1300rpms ish) when I started it up last night after work. It was a lot lower then in the morning tho. While driving I put it in snow mode, which helped a lot. Then I reved it a couple times to open up the valves a bit and they seem to have returned to normal after that. No more high revs. I will throw some Tb cleaner in there this weekend just for safe mesures :)

I did do a full TB cleaning a year (20,000km) ago. After cleaning it again real quick it has not done it again. Pretty weird! it wasn't even that dirty this time.
