Hi all, Been reading a bit about the throttle body spacer...How many of u have installed them and what were the gains/issues(If any) Would like to throw one on my FX...Are some better than others or r they basically the same..Just different color..etc....Any info on which brand would be worthwhile and any links would be great..Seen some on Ebay for 45-60 bucks..

Thanks all,

Hey,

I picked one up from Zebra a bit back and must say, while not astounding, there is certainly a noticeable difference. I want to say that it makes the engine rev up a touch faster, a touch louder, and the 'butt dyno' does say a bit more power. Mine is red, and I got it mostly to add an inch or so to the intake and to add a little colour to the engine bay, but I was surprised to feel some differences as well in performance. I would say though, be careful with the ebay specials. I notice many of them are not grooved on the inside, and the information I have read seems to indicate the grooving is a big part of the function. Hope this helps!

I'm sure you have seen this thread, but if not, check this out for more info--> https://www.infinitiscene.com/search/1/?q=772-VQ-Throttle-Body-Spacer-Mod

I have one. No gains, no difference in sound, and I might be better off just throwing a hundred dollar bill in he toilet and flushed it. Paperweight in my opinion.

I know a lot of G35 guys and 350z guys who stand by their spacers. It might be the case that because so many people run them that people are lulled into the fact that they do something.

I dont have one but was contemplating picking one up.

spend your money on a 5/16 plenum spacer instead, throttle body spacer has limited proven data.

But after your plenum spacer, exhaust and intake. Throttle body spacer might add a couple ponies. With the limited number of bolt on power mods for this car I will take what I can get.

By increasing the intake lenght you might gain some in higher rpm, but imo the VQ35DE needs a push in low and mid range rpm as it's a bit lazy there.
i was also looking at these spacers but insted i think i will go for a plenum spacer.
Whats the best choice though....5/16 or 1/2?

5/16 plenum is the best of choice for all RPM ranges any thicker will result in loss of low RPM power/torque.

I certainly agree with all said. The TBS is not worth full price, but if you can grab one cheap, once all your other intake work is finished, why not? As meme405 said, take what you can get!

However, I can say without a doubt that the plenum spacer was one of the biggest changes I noticed. I have the 5/16 MD. Totally with Zebra and soonster on that one.

You would have to get a unit like Uprev, Unichip, or something and then take it to a tuner w/ dyno. I suppose you could try to street tune it yourself, but I wouldn't unless you're very experienced. Or you can use one of the off the shelf programs if you've just got the usual bolt ons.

How much for a tune, where can I get it done?

I'm curious as to how a throttle body spacer would do anything. The claims are based on the same premise as the Tornado which we all know doesn't work. Even if it were able to spin the air into a "vortex", the air is then promptly scattered into the intake manifold before getting to the runners. The plenum spacer is doing something entirely different since there was a slight design flaw in the OEM plenum.
