Throttle Body Cleaning (High Idle)

i got mine fixed just by unplugging the battery and throttle body leave over night, and Perform "Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning" Perform "Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning" idle is nice and low now , didn't even have do the idle air volume learning procedure. every thing is working perfectly now.

did mine just a few minutes ago, didnt drive it, just let it get up to operating temp. cel still on and it worked. then i cleared the light and were good to go! timing is crucial with this procedure i also used the cd player to time it all out.

I finally got around to cleaning my throttle body and I was surprised to see how much crap has built up on the butterfly valve. I mean it was piled on. After the cleaning, I am having idle problems too but I have to wait until tomorrow morning to do the reset thingy. I am currently idling just under 1k rpm. What rpm should i be idling at cold start?

I just cleaned out my TB and plenum today, preformed all the pedal dance tricks, and everything is fine. No CEL and no high idle. It did take me a few tries to get the resets to work but its all good now. An oil catch is definitely next on my mod list. Here are some before and after pics...

Without the pedal dance tricks ( ///799 ) I would certainly have had to take it to a "real" mechanic.

oh he will def feel improvement.. i did this to my and my friend FX and they run so much smoother once you get the procedure done.

So far I've noticed a smoother idle and quicker shutoff but I've driven less than 3 miles since I finished. I'll let you know tomorrow after I drive around a little.

Nice before/after photos! You need to slap in a plenum spacer for sure!!!

I did the exact same cleaning a couple months ago, but did not need to reset anything. Idle and operation have been normal before and after the cleaning. After cleaning I was motivated to get an oil catch to stop the gunk from building up as quickly in the future.

Did mine last weekend. Did all the reset procedure and is working fine until I turn it off then start it back up. Them I get the p0507 error. Did it multiple times and same result. Any suggestions?

Dave how much did they charge you for a consult reset?

Just installed a Crawford Plenum and love it. Performed the TB reset procedure but...

The car idles at a little over the 2nd line (750rpm?) in the first rpm intervals. It stays smooth for about 30 seconds, and then dips lower and then right back up to the 2nd mark. When it dips low you can feel the engine struggle and the car vibrates. :(.

Im hoping that cleaning the tb will fix things up. I'm afraid that there is a leak between the crawford and lower plenum (although i replaced the old gasket with a new one...). Anyone know what symptoms a leak would show?

watch out not to touch your throttle body or like mess with it its gonna make your car run weird but just have to disconnect the battery to recalibrate it

Update: Concerning Crawford + Rough Idle...

70F and sun today. Decided to take another look at it. Apparantly while installing the first time, the gasket was not seated properly. Reinstalled the crawford and torqued the screws (Hint: If you dont have a torque wrench, use a nut driver and tighten it firmly, it is approx the same as 100inch/lbs on a torque wrench). Fired it up and the idle is perfect now. No more rough dipping and engine shaking. Love every second of the mod, and killed a quarter tank of gas while "road testing." :)

Thanks iS family for all the help! You guys are the best!!

Cool, glad you're able resolve the problem. Now go for some real road test with the Crawford

i'm experiencing this high system idle air control after replacing plugs, gaskets and valve covers. i hope this reset works!! thanks in advance (i hope).

  1. ENGINE COLD
  2. Perform "Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning" .
  3. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
  4. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
  5. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
  6. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
  7. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
  8. WAIT over 10 seconds before this next step.
  9. Perform "Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning" .
  10. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
  11. Turn ignition switch “ON”. WAIT EXACTLY ONE SECOND SHARP. Turn ignition switch “OFF”
  12. THEN wait at least 10 seconds.
  13. Make sure that throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound. - Very hard to hear anything at all. Just believe this is happening by faith.
Now, here's the big change
  1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
AND RIDE YOUR CAR FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES, this will make for correct operating temperatures to happen within the engine for the following steps. Warming your car in the garage in the morning aparently does not cut it.

  1. Turn ignition switch “OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds.
  2. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
  3. Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds.
  4. Fully depress the accelerator pedal. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
  5. Wait 7 seconds
  6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the MIL stops blinking and turns ON.
  7. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL goes off. Start engine and let it idle. THE ENGINE MUST BE STARTED WITHIN THE 3 SECONDS AFTER IT STOPS BLINKING, THATS HOW THIS LIGHT GOES OFF. THE SERVICE MANUAL DOES NOT STATE THIS, BUT IF YOU LOOK AT THE DIAGRAM WHERE THE ENGINE LINE ON-OFF IS, IT CLEARLY SHOWS YOU SHOULD TURN IT ON WITHIN THESE THREE SECONDS.
This is where your engine will start to learn the correct idle settings

  1. Wait 20 seconds.
  2. Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure that idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications.

I know this is a old thread but that what I am facing today....
I don't know why it didn't work for me. Did everything as above said till STEP 4 CEL was blinking 4 times before WAIT 7 SECONDS then it was on all the time to STEP 6, continued to the END ....... nothing changed.
If anyone can chim in and I will give it another try before get to the last option..
take to the stealership and pay them $155.00 to get it fix...
Thanks in advance.
Paul.

Anyone ...??????????????

Paul, have to double check the mass air flow sensor and throttle body connector to make sure they are proper? How about the rubber air hose on the bend of the intake tube? All clams are nice and tight on the intake path? I have clean my TB many time and have not experience this at all.

Hi Andy,
I want you to know that I fixed the problem and so happy. Timing was it all about.
The FX running much better after cleaned MAF + TB + Plenium. Hopefully won't have any problem next time doing it..LOL
