Thinking of purchasing a higher mileage FX35.

So I am in the market for a new car and I have wanted an FX35 for a long time. I've been lurking here for a long time, learning about the FX and now I found one that I like. It's an '05 FX35 with the Sport package. It's also reasonably priced.

There are a few downsides however, first and foremost, the mileage. It's a little high at 92k. It also has a couple of minor scratches on the front passenger door. Other than that it looks like it's in good condition for the age. Also the dash was bubbling but that's covered under a lifetime warranty, right? And finally, there is only one key but luckily it's not the smart key.

One of the pluses is the price. It's listed at $16.8k but I think there may be some room for negotiation. I drove it and it seemed fine with no weird noises or weird vibrations. The ride was definitely firm with the sport package.

Any thoughts? What price should I be aiming for?

From what I know 92k miles for an FX is nothing. But that is 92k that the owner put on himself. You never know how the 92k were handled.
The fx styling is ahead of its time so it will not look out of date. I bought my 05 last Dec at 43k miles which I could live with. I would check around.

Yeah. I hear you. I want to get the car checked out by AAA approved mechanic before I commit to anything. In fact the dealer is pretty accommodating about getting it pre-inspected.

I dont think you can get a Infiniti certification on it. Thats what sold me on mine. What warranty are they willing to give/ sell you?

It's not an Infiniti dealer. It's an independent used car dealer. They sell higher end used cars and had a bunch of X5's and even a Bentley Continental. I haven't asked about getting a warranty yet.

Good call. I'll give them a call and see what warranty options I have.

If you are going to purchase warranty through a used car dealership, I'd read the terms very carefully.... Good chance you can be paying for something that won't serve you any good.

i would highly recommend a professional inspection. I purchased my 04 fx35 w/ sport + tech w 32k miles for $19k. Before my fx35, I looked at least 10 other fx35's and test drove all of them..

I agree that 92K is not high mileage on the VQ35DE engine. These things are rock solid. A good inspection should be enough to put you at ease. Check with an infiniti dealer - if any maintenance was performed at a dealership, the records should be available from any dealer, based on the VIN number. Check to see if there are maintenance records for the shocks - around 60K, they should be changed out. Since the shock performance degrades slowly, a lot of people forget to do this one.

The things you can do to go above and beyond the normal inspection from a professional would be the following in my recommendation:

Send a sample of engine oil to Blackstone labs. For 25 bucks, they will write a little report about the state of the oil - the report they write will immediately tell you if there is anything to be concerned about inside the motor in words you can understand.

Check the spark plug wells for oil. If there is oil in even one of them, you will need new valve covers which run around 200 bucks. Get the seller to cover that if you can.

The dash is covered under an extended warranty from Infiniti, because of the defect. They should cover it at no cost to you.

Check here on IS for other TSBs that might not have been performed by the previous owner. You should get all done for free from any dealer.

Good luck with your purchase. Hope you enjoy your FX as much as I enjoy mine!

Well. I think I'll pass on that one. I found another FX35 that I'm 99% sure I want. It's an 04 with the sport package. I would purchase it from the original owner and he had it regularly serviced at the dealer. It needs new tires and the driver's side seat will need to be reupholstered and it has the infamous bubbling dash. However, he only wanted $12k. Plus it's in much better shape than the FX35 that I originally posted about. I'm getting all the service records from the dealer faxed to me. Tee-hee! I'm excited as a school girl.

Get It..!!! I've an 06FX35.. And I am loving every second of it. I live upstate NY, took a trip to Lake George on a heavy Snow storm night. The car din skip a beat.!! The other vehicles had a tough time moving while i still raced at 60mph all thru the trip.

enJoy it..!

Sorry. I can't submit until I have ten posts, but it's a basically stock FX35 in Diamond Graphite with a black interior. Logan's school girl pic is a pretty accurate representation of me.

Hah! Keep posting man, we want to see the new ride!

Well, this is the only good picture I have so far. Bone stock. I plan on keeping it more or less stock with a few changes like clear tail lights, LED lights throughout, iPod adapter, maybe even a roof mounted DVD player for my daughter. The tires are almost bald so I'm going to have to get a set of tires right off the bat.

suggest getting the Hankook Ventus ST RH06. Those Gdyrs you have on there besides being spent are one of the worst tires ever made.

Word. No way I would pay the sky high price of goodyear for such a useless tire. I'm debating between Yoko Prada Spec-x and the Hankooks.
