The first three months as a new owner of a used FX were great!!!

Sux to hear about the accident. If high miles, maybe best to look for another used FX instead. Good luck.

That's crazy. There's some decent part-out opportunity, especially if a good motor and desirable interior color. I wouldn't be able to give up my baby for a $1500 price tag.
Stupid crappy accident.

Well, the at fault company re-assessed the damage -- only took them 6 GD weeks. Total loss. $8500 in damage...I think it can be done MUCH cheaper, but I don't know if I want to go through the hassle. I may buy it back for $1500 anyway. It's a perfectly running car -- just the rear end damage. I can't imagine $1500 would put me at any kind of loss. Maybe I can repair it cheap and knock down my loan almost entirely -- or just buy another one and use this for parts as needed. There are options -- but I really don't have a nest egg sitting around right now to be really free about this. Bad timing for me. Anyway -- just thought I'd update. Car is total loss :(

So they are going to give you about 12K?

I would see if you can negotiate more. It's worth a try.

Shitty situation, but I would buy back the car and get it fixed myself. I mean it is an excellent time to mod the car, pick up an Invidia exhaust ($1000), Sport tail lights ($350), see if you can find a new hatch and rear bumper at a wrecking yard (>$1000) If not about ($2000). Then just forget about painting the car, vinyl wrap the thing as it sits and drive it till she dies.

The car would still be great, it would be paid off, and you may even have a little extra money from the settlement.

I agreed with meme. I would buying it back. Doesn't seems like there any damage to the frame.

I'm still shocked that it is totaled.
Don't let it slip away. I might want it for $1500. (if you're going to let it go)

theres one n toronto with front end damage for 2k. :P

Lol you can have 2 fx's for $3500, and piece meal them together...

Also if you buy the entire car, if you can store it I am sure there are people on here who need other small parts off the car. You could probably easily make your money back on it.

So, first of all -- I ended up with two options:

#1 Liberty Mutual: $13,500 wtih $4400 to retain.
#2 USAA (mine): $12,100 with $1500 retain.

About the big differences? Don't ask -- I did, and all they said is they weren't changing it.

I decided to keep it with 2nd option. I put $1400 into it for repairs and a replacement bumper cover (unpainted). Hatch I don't have, yet. Figured I'd be patient.

Wow -- they want $800 for this on eBAY! Oh wait, lol -- they stole the picture!

Anyone else around there wanna pick it up and ship it to me on Greyhound? !!!

I was literally about to post a link to this on eBAY and ask anyone if they thought $700 was worth it (cause these guys said they'd go down)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-2005-I...s&fits=Model:FX35&hash=item33832cf80d&vxp=mtr

Was also gonna ask -- look at the pictures -- one looks like it has a little chrome crescent above the INFINITI logo -- the other looks like it doesn't?

Anyway -- opinions appreciated.

Call me crazy - I'd say that is the exact same picture from sellers of opposite sides of the country. Hmmmm

I'm in contact with the guy in West Covina (So Cal) now. My BIL does a lot of driving in the area and might swing by to pick it up for me. Looks pretty clean. No back cover, so I'd need to snag that. But with the glass installed, I might even be able to remove my glass and get my money back with that alone.

Be careful with the glass, its not reinforced like the windshield, so a little nick in the corner will shatter it.

LOL -- nevermind -- the seller sent me two pictures of his hatch - (see below) then said "I use a picture from the internet on the listing". LOL -- the listing shows a near perfect looking hatch in silver. I prefer to just find a hatch in Beryllium in good shape -- but I could just get one painted. Looks like cracks on the left side though -- don't want to repair, just paint.

Wow that hatch is not worth using, even if you could repair it, it's not worth the hassle especially when there's no guarantee the repair won't crack again due to temperature fluctuations. That seller should be flagged for not listing exactly his item for sale.

That color will be a bit difficult to find as it was limited. But painting won't be bad either, just make sure the shop uses the right stuff. Not sure if they need to add flex agent for the hatch, but definitely the bumper

Yeah -- I don't know what he was thinking. He claims it doesn't have a crack or repairs -- hmmm...looks like it does to me on that left side.

Also funny was I offered him $175 after that and he said no. So I quoted his listing, and asked, ""275.00 or best offer" What's the best offer you've received so far?"

He said: "275. It sells for 800+ on ebay."

Me: "Then why write 'Or Best Offer' -- and why not post pictures of the actual item? Confusing."

Anyway -- that's done -- on with the search. There are like three nicely priced hatches on eBAY I could use, but they're all LOCAL PICKUP only, and back east. I can get one for $700 right now in good shape -- includes the interior panel, but not the trim, spoiler light, or tail lights. I have those -- so....maybe I'll do that. It also would need to be painted. Was REALLY hoping I could find a Beryllium hatch and just slap it on :)

Ha ha -- as we speak -- Craigslist posting expired, and he's now relisted it...http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/pts/4299250193.html

Try googling fx Infiniti hatch trunk and see if that returns results. I got my eyes peeled for a hatch, if I come across one I'll let you know.
As for that seller, he's acting shady so I'd not bother. That hatch looks like it went through a tornado.. Maybe it's good but if it's not.. It's a loss..
You'll find one, hang tight.
