Test drive

Well I got the 06 and will pick it up on Friday. It is unbelievably clean and pretty much loaded. I think the first mod will be to get the headlights and tail lights tinted. I called an auto body shop to ask about it and he said legally they cannot do it, but he gave me their painters phone number and he has a home shop where he does side jobs.

Does he mean that they wont tint them at all, or that they wont tint them as much as you want?

they CAN legally do it if they do it correctly: because the light will still shine through the same.

no they can't. any alterations from DOT approved & it's not DOT approved anymore. I'd do it for someone I actualy knew but I'd never give a reciept for it unless the reciept specifically stated "for off road use only" & even then I think i'd be leary about documenting it at all... a stranger comes & asks me to do it & the answer would be no, same as the other shop really, so not too surprised they wouldn't do it for you.

so in that case, are tint shops not supposed to be tinting the front windows/windshields of cars in new york state?

jk I meant its illegal.

if it still has the DOT stamp then it's okay ;)

I think that the law is only worded so that the owner cannot operate an illegally tinted vehicle on the street. The law doesn't state that a shop isn't allowed to perform the work. Although liability reasons will keep shops from doing it.

technically tint shops are breaking the law, but any tint shop that refused to do illegal tints wouldn't be a tint shop for long, & no government agencies are really cracking down on them either because stopping the source would be a huge revenue loss for them, so it's business as usual. if they REALLY wanted to stop illegal tint they'd crack down on the source, but I think they'd rather just earn huge $$$ from all the citations they can get from this.

when they decided they wanted to really stop minors from buying cigarettes they knew just how to do that. many businesses lost there licenses & now it is widely known that there just not playing around, so now a minor can't just walk into any store & buy cigarettes or alcohol for that matter, they could do the same with tint & make it that no tint shop would dare putting illegal tint on a strangers car for fear of loosing there license to do business if they really wanted too

what about tuners? even the big dogs... the majority of what they do is illegal too, not only illegal but even on the federal level. all the turbo's & SC's, all the emissions tampering & alterations... just knowingly doing this on a vehicle that will be operated on the road is illegal. of course your invoice will say very clearly that any mods they perform for you "may not be legal on public roadways & is provided for off road use only" so they are somewhat covered by this loophole technicality & again, no real heat is coming down on them either, but a big part of there business is illegal "technically" with the exception of the very few CARB legal kits...

Here are a few pics of my virgin FX

thanks for asking. My recovery is coming along very good. I am about 6 weeks ahead of schedule and I am feeling great. I can now make it up and down stairs with minimal assistance, I can get in and out of the passenger seat by myself. I can be out and about for 3-4 hours before I start hurting too much, so enough time to visit friends, go out to eat, visit the mall. They don't seem like very exciting things but when you've been laid up for so long they are huge. I have a doctors appt in 2 weeks and hopefully the x rays look good enough where they said I can start putting 10 or 20 percent weight on my leg to start physical therapy for walking. I am hoping that in 4-6 weeks I will be off all my pain meds and able to drive.

Looks great! Now you have some extra motivation to get through the physical therapy-Good luck and enjoy:tup:
