Tech Package vs Used/New ?

Hello Guys, I've been a lurker here for a while. I've wanted to own an FX35 for many many years, and I think I'm finally ready now. Few questions:

Ideally I would like to buy a preowned 2009+. My budget is around 30K-35K at this point.

I think the tech package is awesome and I would really like to have it. But, they seem so rare. I couldn't find a09+ FX35 with a tech package with low miles around philadelphia (250 mile search). Out of curiosity, I actually searched for a new car inventory at about 20 dealers on Infiniti website and there are only 2 FX35s with tech packages. What gives? I hate to give up the tech package, but it looks almost impossible to find a 09+ with tech..

I looked around for used car prices and then saw some stories about insane discounts (~10K below MSRP) given on the 2010 models when the 2011 models came in. Do you guys expect to see such discounts on 2011 models? Should I stretch my budget a little and look for a good discount on a new 2011 in the coming months?

Any opinions on 09 with low miles vs 10/11 with slightly higher miles?

Thanks in advance

I say expand your options and try to go for a 2010 fx with tech package. That way you get a newer FX plus the 12 should be out soon so the 10 might go down

Two things that bug me about the 2009 that they fixed in 2010 are the Navigation update only via dealer (vs. disc updates) and the custom iPod interface (vs. a standard USB port).

You've wanted a FX "for many many years", wait to find the tech package. Many used car sellers don't properly advertise model packages. Know exactly what's included and decide what the package is on your own. Then verify it of course.

Bro isn't this your second thread with the same title and same question?

You should stretch your budget about 5k because you'll be able to find something better in the low $40k range. For $45k you can grab an 09 FX50 with about 30k miles or for around you can find a 2010 FX35 with barely any mileage......try to look on cars.com/autotrader/and local dealers. where in PA are you located? I went on cars.com and used the philly zipcode and found a bunch for the prices I am talking about.

Thanks for the replies guys. Sorry about the double post (i thought the first one didn't get posted for some reason)...

I am near west chester PA. In a 250 mile search, there is only one that clearly states tech package (2009/17,948 mi/$37,888/Sayville, NY). I think it's a great price with low miles but unfortunately it's the only color i don't dig (brown).

Is there a way I can tell if a car has the tech package from the pictures ? Maybe some controls for ICC on the steering? If yes, can you post a pic please?

Thanks

You can tell from the front or inside. Front will have the laser in the bumper and lane camera in the glass top middle. Inside where mirror folding switches are u will see DCA, etc buttons.

Can someone help me figure this out please? For the 2009 models, I can clearly see the 2 buttons on the right side of steering wheel controls for LDW and ICC (I think) and the FCA/LDW, DCA and IBA buttons next to the mirror folding switches.

But, for the 2010 and 2011 models, I saw multiple listings stating that the car has Tech package, but I don't see any of the above controls.. Are they not tech packages?
I don't have enough post count to post links or pictures..

Give us the links to the listing you are interested in and we'll tell you if it has the tech package.

Thanks jdTrader. All 3 of these listings state tech pkg, but i don't see the controls on steering and side panel from what i can make out in the pics:

Correct, all 3 from the pictures have no tech package. Picture 1 has no navigation, picture 2 and 3 have navigation.

From the steering, you should see the lane departure prevention button and adaptive cruise control buttons.
Inf_6.jpg

As far as the buttons on the left, you should see DCA, LDW, FCW...for 2010 I think they may have moved one of these in the media settings, but still more than just blank buttons.

by the way, the pictures are great because these guys most of the time don't know what they are selling or just try and lie, so it's good what you are doing, but sometimes these bozos just put pics of a previous one they sold or something....just call and verify that the pics are from the car they are selling..

I actually think I lucked out tremendously with my deal on top of the fact that it was advertised as having NO tech package and didn't say that it was a S. From the pictures, I knew it was loaded with everything....stupid sales guy didn't know how to advertise it appropriately so the people interested in S, tech, nav, etc just skipped over the ad in my situation I'm sure.

Also, make sure to check out autotrader....I like it a ton more than cars.com.

good luck! and when you get one, make sure you post pics and get involved with iS more! :smile (2):

You really should go see the brown (Midnight Mocha) FX in person. I too was a lurker for months, but purchased a brown 2010 FX 35 this Monday. I always pictured myself in a Black or Silver FX, but when I saw my FX at the dealership, it was love at first sight. The java leather interior was like icing on a cake.

Would you mind posting a link to the listing of your FX? or some pics ?

The Midnight Mocha color looks like a deep, dark purple is certain lighting. One of things that helped me in my search for a FX was ordering the FREE Infiniti brochure from the InfinitiUSA site. The brochure includes a page with high gloss pics of exterior colors and interior upholstery.

Ah Thanks and Nice!! I think I'm starting to like the Midnight Mocha :) I will try to take the 4 hour drive to NY to check it out one of these days. (kinda hard right now coz we have a 2 month old). How much did you pay for your FX and what options do you have ?

I paid a little over $38K, which was about $300 below Kelly Blue Book value. The trade-in value for my 08 Honda Fit was so good, I didn't push the price of the FX too much. My FX has the Premium Package, roof rack & rails, and front & rear splash guards. I considered shopping for a FX with the Touring package, but I always install aftermarket wheels on my cars. I ordered 22" Vossen CV-1s last week.
