While covered in ice chunks and salt my 2004 FX35 suddenly developed an intermittent 'clunk' in the back. I was guessing it was something inside the parking brake drum and was correct. A shoe had broken and occasionally grabbed. Fortunately it did not do any damage and after I replaced the shoes and hardware, the clunk was gone. Trying to be a good boy I set out to replace the right side as well. However when I removed the caliper assembly I realized there was a lot of play on the wheel shaft. Surprise! I will now have to go and buy a proper socket and new wheel bearings to finish it up. Perhaps better anyways because my fingers are frozen.
