Sub replacement in Bose sub box

Anyone ever thought about replacing the speakers in the bose sub box with a lil more high powered subs and then throwing a bigger amp at it? I see Kicker makes a 6.5 that would fit depth wise but I'm not sure what the cubic ft. of the box is though.. anyone have an idea?

Just kicking around some ideas while this nasty winter storm is setting in... I need some nice weather ASAP.. I got the mod bug bad.....

It is possible. I believe the Bose subs are 5 1/4 inch woofers. However, due to the odd shape of the Bose speaker cavities in the sub box, I would use 4 or 5 inch subs and custom mount plates to mount them in the box. Any aftermaket amp would due, but I would use a small class D amp for a steathy appearance.

I thought about buying some 5 inch woofers from here and install them in my Bose sub box. I believe that they would hit harder than the Bose speakers especially with an better amp.

I thought tchuck gave up because of fitment issues?

I didn't give up, but I should have, and still may actually. The kicker comp cvt 6.5" woofers are slightly too big. Dayton makes woofers that will drop right in and probably sound just as good.

To clarify, the outer diameter of the mounting ring on the kickers is too big to fit in the contoured baffle of the Bose enclosure.

Rich,

Check my sub in my garage. It bumps plenty man.

That looks nice! Where did you get that made? Is that a golf bag in the back? Thats my only vice.. I don't want to lose the already small trunk space.. I need to be able to get 4 golf bags and shoes back there.. I had a Q-logic box in my Envoy that was just like that.. It worked great but I had some clubs break the grill and puncture the sub once..(I sometimes drive like an a-hole) I love the placement of the Bose sub.. very stealthy..

Thanks tchuck, those were the ones I was looking at... guess those will not work.. I have a real good friend who is a car audio wholesaler.. when the weather gets nicer I will actually take it out and take it apart and see if him and I can actually match something up.. wish I still had my part time job at Rockford Fosgate.. I could have the boys just make a few speakers to fit to spec.. damn I miss that job lol! Speakers were $1 an inch... $2 if you wanted DVC...

For you guys that have this installed: If you get a chance, can you measure the distance from the end of the box to the other side for me? Thanks in advance.. I really like that set-up.. Def. considering it..

Thank you! Thats exactly what I was looking for! Is that the grill that they offer with the box?

Hey tchuck, hows the bose holding up with that JL amp running it? Did you think it made a big diff. or kinda minimal?

Huge difference, and its holding up fine. Its only 200w so it doesn't generate any real heat. It wont hold a candle to any decent >10" woofer system but it's WAY better than the oem setup.

In the options they offer a grill for +$12.95, just wondering what that one looks like.. Yours looks pretty beefy.. The one that came with my Q-logic box was very cheap and didn't protect at all..

I got a 250 watt mono Fosgate amp laying around so I figured I would give that a try for a quick fix.. Thanks for the info, I didn't want to do it and have it barely make a change.. Gonna give it a shot! :good:

Mine sub a Rockford Fosgate T1D210 comes with grille. The ones from Wicked CAS mostly will be JL grille since they offer JL sub. I have a a JL 10W6V2 sub with grille. The grille is fitted over the sub and it keep fell off when the sub hits. So if you planning to buy the JL sub, do some research on how the grille will be mounted. My RF grille is mounted to the box with 4 screws.
