Stupid hole won't fit my big spark plug socket

Was in the middle of making a DIY guide for you guys on how to change spark plugs on the 2nd gen only to find out the VQ35HR motor uses a different spark plug retrieval socket than what I used last month on my G35 VQ35DE.

Anyone have any idea what magnetic socket size the 2nd gen uses??

Also found out the VQ35HR plugs made by Denso cost $20 a plug! I know I have 49K, but it doesn't hurt to do for some extra hp and mpg gains. I had 60K on another car before on spark plugs before and there was a big gap difference between new ones.
 
theres a specific socket fir spark plugs that has a rubber gasket inside to hold the spark plugs when you remove and install them.
 
Yeah I have that socket it has a magnet inside too. But the thing is the 2nd gen uses a different small spark plug socket size. I was wondering which one is it? I thought spark plugs sizes were all the same size. My spark plug socket doesn't fit down in the hole.
 
Aaron, you changing out the boots too? I hear when you change spark plugs you also should change out the boots.

There's 2 common spark plug sockets sizes. And I think a third less common. I don't know the sizes, just that there's a bigger one and smaller one in my tool box. You can also regular deep socket of the right size it you don't have the specific spark plug socket size. Without the rubber dubber or magnet, you'll have to figure out a different way to grab the loose plug.

And be sure to start the new plug theads by hand so you don't cross thread. This is more important with the deep socket method since you are much less likely to be able to guide the plug straight in.

Pretty much. There are two sizes normal smaller size for the g35 and then a larger one 11/16 or something. I also found a smaller one for my Suzuki motorcycle. So I have three sizes now.

I've seen sets of 4 show up so I guess there is 4 total

+1 take your time with the threading, always thread by hand first. I start counterclockwise until you hear a small click then you know the threads are lined up.
