I wondered that too, it looks so clunky with all those connections but its a combination of lessening the softness of the brake pedal with putting in more hardlines but then they had to put sections of rubber hose for it to flex when turning the wheels. Its ugly but I guess they had to keep it super safe. I'm going to guess the stoptech lines are going to bypass all those hoses and hardlines and go from the body directly to the caliper. I just wonder how the line will be held in place securely. I wouldn't like to see it graze against something causing it to fail

There must be, I have seen two variations of akebonos, one having only the face painted, the second being completely painted and the depths of the threading being longer or shorter by a bit. Either case, just shorten the bolts and you'll be good.

18.74mm bolts didn't work for me either. I shortened them to 16mm. It seems that there are some caliper variations out there.
